The Police

The rest of that day was a blur. Kirstie called the police and they came because they wanted all the facts from us in person. We stated the facts and showed them the snap, which they recorded on a camera. I was stone faced the whole time, and everyone began to worry about me. Kevin, Kirstie, and Avi stayed with me, but after the police left, Esther left too. I didn't speak unless I had to. I didn't think I could without knowing Mitch was okay.
When it was noon, Kirstie came in with a bowl of mac and cheese. I could see the worry etched on her face.
"Scottie you have to eat," she said and put it in my hands. I shook my head and gave it back.
"I know it seems hard right now, believe me, I'm suffering as much as you are. I don't want to eat, but we have to. To live. We'll find Mitch, I'm sure of that much. That's why I'm not mentally breaking down right now. He's alive. There's hope. But to love through the moments without him we have too..." She stopped for a second, and I could see her eyes tearing up. "Eat."
A single tear fell down her face and she sat down next to me on the couch. I took the food and ate it, but still stayed silent. I didn't need Kirstie worrying about me and finding Mitch. I didn't want to lose her too. Avi and Kevin came in and I could tell they had both been crying.
"What do we do?" Kevin asked, but none of us knew how to answer. Even if I did I wouldn't have spoken anyway. I then and there pledged to stay silent until we figured out where Mitch was. I needed to know at least that much.
"Well, we can look at what happened first," Avi said. "Mitch went on a walk, said he was taking pictures of trees, then none of his social media was updated except for a snap of him saying help in the forest. He had to be okay for at least a second after that to update his story. We know he is alive since he read the texts, and he's the only one with the password to his phone besides us. Maybe he can't reply."
I jumped up and got a piece of paper and a pencil, and wrote what I was thinking on it; 'What if Mitch is hurt?'
"Well let's go look!" Kevin said and immediately started putting on shoes. We all did the same, except me. I went on my laptop and printed out a map of how big the forest was so we could be sure we searched it all. There were little spots in the forest where there were no trees and also a small river flowing through the middle of it all. It wasn't that big, only half a mile by a quarter of a mile, but it would still take a while to check it all.
We knew the police were searching for Mitch too, but I knew the only thing that would make me feel even the slightest bit okay would be to look myself. I drew lines on the map, making it into sections like archeologists do when they excavate areas of rock. That way we would make sure we have covered it all. Then we set off into the forest.

"Where do we go first, Scott?" Avi asked, looking at the many trees in front of us. Still not talking, I pointed to the immediate left and began walking. We spread out to cover more land with one sweep, and started searching.
The forest became silent as it got later and later. Kirstie began hearing things, but Kevin and Avi reassured her it was the wind. I wasn't so sure that's what it was. I didn't think the wind could break sticks behind us.
As it got darker, we took out our flashlights that I brought, since I knew we'd be out late. They asked if I wanted to keep going and I nodded yes, so we continued looking. I wouldn't stop until either we found him or looked around the whole forest. We ran into the police searchers a few times and the waved hello to us and kept going.
It was 3:00 am when we had finished the final area. I was half asleep by then, and they dragged me home and we fell asleep. I slept in the chair by the door again, since sleeping in my bed reminded me of before tour, when Mitch was safe.
I found myself in a dream. I saw trees, in the forest we had searched. I saw Mitch, but it didn't look like Mitch. He looked like a real life version of Aha! His clothes were trashed, his shirt with the black spots on it had holes and tears in it, and his pants were covered in mud. In the dream, I walked closer, and ran to give him a hug because he was okay. He attacked me as if he were a bear or lion, and I woke up shaking.
I hoped it wasn't real.
Somehow I knew it was.

I really have nothing to say other than my italics won't work😂 As always,
Thanks for reading, WAIT I remember what I wanted to say. Ok so in the story Scott and Mitch live near a forest and I'm pretty sure that's not true but this is fan fiction so I could technically make them learn to fly if I wanted to😂😂 ok yeah thanks for reading!
Boop Boop,
