Please Don't Go (Scömìche)

The Mission Pt 1

     Avi and Kevin followed me through the lush forest to where Steven Wievenstein's lab was. Once we got there, we hid behind a tree and waited.
    "Do you think he's here?" Avi asked me.
     "I don't know," I said. I though about it for a minute until Kevin jerked away from the tree.
     "What?" Avi asked.
     "Nothing there was just a bug. It scared me," he replied laughing.
     We waited a little longer just in case we heard something inside the lab. Then I waved my hand for Avi and Kevin to follow me into the building.
     "You sure it's okay?" Kevin asked and I shrugged.
     "It's now or never I guess," I answered.
     "Well, then let's go," Avi said and I nodded.
     I opened the wooden door carefully and slowly, until there was enough room for is to fit through it. I bent over a little to fit in the small doorway and we were in. I sighed in relief and waited for Avi and Kevin.
     Once we were all in, I peered around the corner to see if anyone was with us. I shook my head to tell Avi and Kevin there was no one. I quietly walked towards the table where the stuff the scientist showed me was.
     I got closer and closer to the bottle containing the antidote and I got so close I could read it. Then, I felt a cold and rough hand on my shoulder. I thought it was Avi or Kevin, so I grabbed the antidote and quickly turned around.
     "Okay let's g-" I stopped mid sentence once I saw that the person behind me definitely wasn't Avi or Kevin.
     "What are you doing back here?" Steven yelled into my face. I tried to think of an answer that would make the scientist let me leave with the antidote.
     "Well you see I love your work so I was wondering if I could borrow this and study from it, since you're so amazing. I want to be like you," I said, trying to make it sound sincere.
    "Believe me," I whispered very quietly, just wanting to take the tube and run. He didn't remove his hand from my shoulder and I uncomfortably shifted away from him and closer to the door.
     "Heh, nice try. This is much too important to be in anyone else's hands but MINE," he said and snatched the tube from my hand.
     "Oh sorry. Was I not clear? I want to be you but in order to do that I'm going to need THIS," I said, getting angrier. I looked over to Avi and Kevin and they gave me a thumbs up.
     I reached for the antidote, as if it was the cure to death, and grabbed it from his hand.
     "This, my friend, is MINE," I said, my hand finally getting a grasp on the tube. I immediately ran to Avi and Kevin. The scientist turned around, making air blow into my face, and stuck out his foot. I tripped over it and began to fall. I imagined the tube hitting the ground and shattering into a million pieces.
     "Catch!" I said quickly and threw it in the direction of Avi and Kevin. Avi reached over his head for the antidote, but it flew past him. Kevin jumped across the hallway in an attempt to grab it. He fell, and the tube landed a few feet in front of him. I heard him curse as it broke, and I hit the ground noisily.
     "Run!" Avi said and I jumped on my feet and we were out the door, running into the forest once again.
     We ran until we were sure we weren't being followed anymore, and then we stopped. We ended up in a part of the forest I hadn't looked at much. There was part of the river in view and a small clearing. There were many bushed with berries on them, and animals of all kinds eating them.
     "Well that failed," I said once I my lungs had stopped burning from lack of oxygen.
     "Plan B?" Kevin asked.
     "Let's go," Avi said.

Yay I updated finally. I feel like the writing quality improved a lot since I took that one day break. Well yay for that.
