Learning To Communicate

Scott's Pov:
After the strange man left, Mitch began texting me. I was very happy we had a way of talking, and I learned a lot of new things. He told me he was just the brain and could sometimes control the zombie. He had to think about what he wanted to do I guess.
Eventually I fell asleep on his shoulder and he told me to go home and sleep. I left and walked home. When I got there and climbed into my bed, it was hard to sleep. I thought about the crazy things I learned and wondered if I should tell the others. I decided not to since there still was a chance that they would take Mitch to a hospital. Then we'd lose him. I wasn't about to let that happen.
When I woke up the next morning, I decided to film a superfruit video. I asked Kirstie, Avi, and Kevin to help and they agreed. We got out the camera and set up the lights. We decided to do a Q and A, so I asked for questions on Twitter and told them there were special guests.
The questions came in and we answered as many as we could, most about Mitch and how he went missing. I tried very hard not to give away any of the new information I found, but it was harder than I thought. A few times I said a little too much, but I stopped myself before Avi, Kevin, and Kirstie got suspicious.
We did the outro and packed up the equipment. The video just made me sadder that Mitch wasn't here by my side. I couldn't wait to go back and see him. I was having a good time but I'd rather be with him.
I waited for a chance to sneak out and see Mitch, even just for a few minutes. I decided that since he could text me, that I would tell him I'd be there soon. I grabbed my phone and began to reread everything he sent to me the night before. I wrote down all the useful information so if my phone was ruined or something bad happened to the messages, I would have everything they said.  Then I texted him.
"Hey Mitchie I'll come see you soon, once I can sneak out without anyone seeing. I'm not telling them about this, I feel like I'm responsible for fixing this."
What I told him was true, I did feel responsible, but I didn't tell him they might bring Mitch to the hospital. I didn't want him to worry about even more things. Mitch read it and sent back an assortment of emojis.
     "😄😜💙😘 see you soon Scottland"
I smiled and put my phone in my backpack. I looked around and figured out where everyone was. Kirstie was on her laptop in the chair I slept in for those few terrible nights after Mitch went missing. Avi and Kevin were sitting at the table in the kitchen on their phones.
The door had no clear pathway, and I would be seen by someone no matter how I approached it. I just had to wait. I sat on my bed waiting for someone to move, checking every few minutes. Once Kirstie looked up when I had tried to be sneaky when checking if someone moved. I knew I wouldn't get away with being sneaky without someone seeing me.
"Scott what are you doing?" Kirstie asked, putting her laptop on the side table.
"Nothing," I said quietly. "I'm looking for food." Kirstie walked to the table where Avi and Kevin, so I followed.
"Should we go out for lunch?" Kirstie asked all of us. I shifted on my feet uneasily and shook my head.
"I agree let's just get something from the store or eat what's here," Avi said and I was glad we wouldn't be leaving.
"Should I go to the store?" she asked and Kevin nodded.
"There's not much left since it's all stuff that doesn't expire so it could still be edible after tour," he answered. Kirstie nodded and grabbed her purse from out of her suitcase.
"I'll be back in 20 minutes with food," she said as she unlocked the door and left. I saw this as the perfect opportunity to leave. I took my backpack and went out the door.
"Are you going with Kirstie?" Kevin asked. I didn't want to tell him I was going on a walk because I thought he would say I should stay and then Avi would back him up and I wouldn't ever go, so I nodded. I didn't realize that they would figure out I had lied when Kirstie got back.

I ran and ran until things looked familiar. It all looked different in the daytime. I eventually found Mitch. The zombie took over and started to run, but I would tell Mitch got back in control and walked back towards me. Zombified Mitch looked different in the day. He almost looked like he had cleaned up the mud and was looking a little more normal. Mitch took his phone out of his pocket and texted me. I guessed he still couldn't control his voice yet.
My phone dinged and I pulled it out to read the message Mitch sent. "I can walk now"
"That's great Mitch! Tonight I'm going to see the scientist, Steve right? I'm going to his lab," I said and Mitch immediately typed away on his phone.
     "Scott I was there. 😂"
"I know I'm just reminding you," I said laughing. The zombie controlled Mitch's face and it was expressionless. I stopped laughing and tried to be serious. Mitch must have noticed because he asked me what was wrong.
"I can't stay long, I'm only here because Kirstie went out to buy food. I accidentally told Avi and Kevin I went with her, so I'm making it look like I actually did," I explained.
"I see," Mitch texted in response. "What did you tell the pentaholics about the snap."
"They freaked out and I told them on Instagram we weren't aware of you're location and if they saw you to tell you to come back. We filmed a superfruit video today answering their questions," I said, as my phone got a notification. It was a text from Kirstie. I began to shake as I opened it, but sighed in relief when she asked what I wanted from the store.
"Kirstie will be back soon I have to go! I'll see you later today if there's time or tomorrow night. I'll keep you updated. Bye Michelle," I said as I began to run home.
Once I got there, I sat on the couch and acted like I had just been staring at the ground. Kirstie came through the door shortly after I did and asked why I didn't answer her text.
"Oh I didn't hear it," I said innocently. Luckily Avi and Kevin were in the other room and didn't hear the conversation.
We all sat at the table and ate the food Kirstie got. I ate in silence and threw my paper plate away before anyone else even ate half of their food.
"Come back Scott. We need to talk about what we should do to find Mitch," Avi said, and I sat back down in my chair.
"We should contact the police again and ask if they have any more information for us," I said, trying to make the conversation end so I could sneak out to go to the scientist's lab.
"Good idea I'll do that tomorrow," Kirstie said and everyone quickly finished eating.
Once it was safe to leave without anyone seeing me, I grabbed my backpack and quietly left.
Steven was exactly where we were the night before and I followed him silently as he led me to his lab. I brought an empty water bottle in case I had a chance to take a sample of the thing that made a zombie take over Mitch.
"We're here," Steven said and opened to door to a small building and revealed a very small lab. I bent over a little to get through the door way. I quickly pulled out my phone while he closed the door and I began an audio recording so I could listen to it later and write everything down. I had left my notebook at home while rushing to get out, since I didn't know when Avi, Kevin, or Kirstie would come out and see me. The scientist came over and pointed to one of the barrels of liquid in one corner of the room.
"Over here is the Cerlourious Wievenstein, which is what I have named the thing that is turning that human into a horse. With every injection I give him, he turns more into a horse."
"How many injections has-" I paused and swallowed. "-'that'  human had."
"2, but sometime within the next 24-48 hours the second dose should begin to fully take over. Then, he can bite other humans and turn them into horses too. It will take 5 days for him to be a complete horse, and 7 days for his old useless brain to disintegrate and a new one will be formed." I shook and tried to think of more questions.
"Is there any way to change the human back to normal at this stage?"
"Yes there is. Someone who knows him must talk about memories they've had together and he will change back fully and be just the same he was. You can also use this concoction I have created and it will destroy the horse cells I have injected into him," he said as he pointed to a tube on the metal table in the middle of the room.
"Okay I've had enough of you in my lab go," he suddenly said and I nodded. I silently left and stopped the recording. I ran home quickly, and wondered why he had so suddenly made me leave.
