Scott's Pov:
The morning after I saw Mitch, I continued my research about zombies. I eventually found a few articles on how to change zombies back to humans and I happily read them, writing down every word they said. One said that memories with the person can make the zombie part fade and the another said I would have to find out what made him a zombie and do something to it to reverse its effects.
Both sounded pretty good to me, so I waited for night to fall so I could look for Mitch again. I knew he would be there because one of the articles said zombies liked to be near trees and rarely left the area they were transformed into a zombie. I packed a bag with anything useful, like my notes and basic camping materials.
I walked around and looked in each room for useful things. Kirstie saw me doing this, but I acted like I didn't see her.
"Scott, what are you doing?" she asked. I jumped, pretending like I didn't know she was even in here. I turned around and blinked a few times because I wasn't going to break my silence then. I thought of the hours of staring at nothing and not talking.
Then it hit me, I had screamed Mitch's name in the forest the night before. I decided to talk, since I found Mitch. I knew he was alive. As I was thinking about this, time passed and Kirstie was getting suspicious.
"I'm going to trace where Mitch went tonight," I said, and coughed. Talking wasn't a good idea, I thought. Kirstie looked a little surprised I talked, and probably got even more suspicious that I talked. Talking meant I was sure I had found Mitch.
"You can talk?" she asked, smiled. It was a fake smile, I knew she was just trying to figure out what I knew.
"I always could, I just didn't feel like talking the past few days," I said, trying to look like I knew no more than she did.
She didn't buy it, but knowing she wouldn't get any more information out of me now, she turned around and continued working on her computer. I silently left.
I went in the next room, and Avi and Kevin were there. I tried to not look suspicious, but they saw my backpack.
"Are you going on a trip or something?" Kevin asked. Avi raised his eyebrows, and I sighed. I shook my head and grabbed a flashlight off the table next to Avi.
"Are you camping?" Avi asked. This time I nodded. Camping was close enough to what I was doing.
That night when everyone was asleep, I quietly snuck out of the house to look for Mitch again. I ran through the forest and didn't stop running until I was near when I had been when I saw Mitch the night before.
There he was, in the same spot. He froze, but wasn't looking at me. I ran behind a nearby tree, and saw a strange man come into my sight. He was holding a needle filled with a strangely colored liquid and injected it into Mitch's arm. I thought Mitch was a zombie at that point, but he had gotten even more zombie-like after being injected with the needle. He growled and his skin looked like mud had been smeared on him. His eyes got fiercer, and I stepped back a little, hoping he wouldn't see me.
I knew how he had turned into a zombie, but I still didn't know how to cure him, or what that man was doing to him.
I needed a sample of whatever was in that needle. I ran out from my hiding place and tried to take the needle from the man's arms while he was cleaning it off.
"What are you doing?" he said, his crazy eyes zooming up and down.
"What did you do to Mitch?" I said loudly.
"I'm turning him into another organism! Want to see?"
"What?" I asked, not knowing what he meant. If I tell him I want to see what he's doing, maybe I can get a sample or something, I thought.
"A horse in particular. Would you like to see the concoction I have made that is slowly turning him into a horse?"  I let go of the needle and processed what he had told me.
"Yes. Show me," I said and turned my head to zombie Mitch, who had stayed still the entire time. I walked closer to Mitch, and remembered something I read.
I had read that some zombies could understand what you were saying and it would go to the human's brain that it was taking over. I decided to talk to Mitch even if it didn't work.
"Come here tomorrow in this spot and I will show you my lab and all its amazingness. I'm going to be the best scientist ever," he said and I nodded.
"Tell me a bit about this, specifically all the chemicals involved in this special... Whatever that is," I said, and hoped he would talk for at least five minutes so I could talk to Mitch a little. I really wanted a reaction, anything to tell me that Mitch was in there somewhere.
"Well you see there's a lot of..." I tuned out there and began to think of a way that would help the zombie tell me that Mitch was in there. I realized that if Mitch had seen the texts that he could at least control to zombie's arms.
"Mitch. I know you're in there. Please, if you can hear me... Move your arm. Please."
The zombie tilted its head, and moved its arm.
"Mitchell Grassi, I know you're there and I mean this when I say, I will save you. Don't you worry, I've got this covered," I said as a tear slowly crawled down my face. The zombie's arm twitched, and I knew Mitch had understood.

He was there, and that made me feel so much better.

1,047 words wow. I don't even know what to say right now other than I hope you enjoyed this and come back tomorrow for another update.
As always thanks for reading!
