Prologue

Liana was only five years old when she realised that not everybody could see what she could see. She looked around the field, spotting many people. She wanted to be alone with her Dad,

“Daddy, can we go somewhere else? I want to be alone with you.” Five year old Liana whined, tugging on her father’s sleeve,

“Honey, we are alone,” He replied, looking at her strangely. She didn’t like that look. Her father gave it to her whenever she talked to the people he couldn’t see. She realised that again, he couldn’t see the people. Why couldn’t he see them? There was one person right behind him, rubbing his back. Couldn’t he feel it?

“No we’re not. There’s even one person right behind you, Daddy. He’s rubbing your back for you,” Her father started to get angry,

“There is no one there. If you don’t want to spend time with me then fine, we’re going home,” Liana cried all the way home, not understanding why her father couldn’t see the people and why he was so angry with her. It was around halfway home when her father turned to her, to try and console her, and because of that one second of distraction, Liana lost her father.

Another car came at them, driving in the wrong lane and hit her father’s side of the car. It was later revealed that the driver had been drunk at the time, even though it was only three in the afternoon. Liana only received some cuts and bruises, no, all her scars were on the inside.

Liana would have blamed herself and the people who only she could see if her father hadn’t visited her that very night. She was in her mother’s bed, but her mother was asleep, exhausted by all the tears she had shed. Liana lay awake, wishing she hadn’t seen the people because then her Dad would still be alive. She also wished that she hadn’t been crying because then her Dad wouldn’t have taken his eyes off the road. It was at 2am when her father came to her. She knew it was 2am because the alarm clock next to the bed showed 2.00 in its bright red colours.

“Liana, honey,” She gasped as she saw her father, standing right in front of her.

“Daddy, they said you died,” She whispered, not wanting to wake her Mum.

“I did, honey.”

“But you’re here!”

“Honey, you can see ghosts,” Her father smiled at her but she felt confused,

“No I can’t. Ghosts are scary and white,”

“No they aren’t, honey. I’m sorry I couldn’t understand it before. I have died, Liana, but you can still see me. I am a ghost. Liana, honey, I just came to say that you can’t blame yourself or the ghosts for what happened. What happened was an accident, do you understand?” Liana nodded slowly, not really believing his words. “I have to go now, but I will come back. Please look after Mummy.”

Liana nodded again and suddenly her Dad vanished. She snuggled in closer to her Mum, trying not to think about what just happened. She couldn’t believe that she could see ghosts. The people she saw were always nice and friendly, they always talked to her and smiled at her and always looked after her. Liana decided not to tell her Mum about the visit from her Dad, but she did as he asked and looked after her from that time on.

Her Dad visited many times from that time on, watching over her as she grew into a beautiful young woman. Liana never did stop seeing the ghosts and even after she had been labelled a freak for talking to them, she didn’t stop talking to them. Her Mum understood, her Mum supported her even though she couldn’t see them herself, her Mum believed her.  That was all she needed, the support of her Mum and the encouraging words of her Dad. Everybody else didn’t matter to her, because the ghosts were her friends.

This is my new story. I hope you like it. I have never done a third person POV so I may mess up sometimes, please bear with me. This is just the introduction so it’s the shortest chapter. All the other ones will be much longer! Please vote and comment!
