Chapter Six
Liana walked into school with Flora and Tyler on either side of her, for once looking forward to class. Her first class was cooking though so she wouldn’t be with Acario but every class after that was with him.
“So are you ready for today? Lisa is going to flip when she sees Acario hanging out with you.” Liana shot Tyler a look, had they been listening to the conversation last night? “Relax, we just heard the goodbye part. Do prepare yourself though, she won’t take it well.”
“I’ll be fine” She mumbled, making sure nobody was looking her way.
“If you say so. Good luck.” Tyler commented as she walked into the main building. The cooking class was theory so it was boring and uneventful, although she did overhear Lisa saying Acario was going to ask her out today. Liana disguised her snort of laughter as a cough. Lisa really was going to flip when Acario sat with Liana at lunch.
“Hey, how was cooking?” Liana looked up to find Acario in the seat next to hers, getting his books out.
“Boring. Although Lisa believes you are going to ask her out.” She laughed along with the handsome vampire,
“I really don’t know why she thinks that-I wasn’t even listening to her yesterday, she is really conceited. Anyway, I made you something.” Acario reached into his bag and pulled out a wooden cross, “Get it?” Liana laughed as she reached out to receive it but before she could, Lisa snatched it up.
“Oh, what’s this? A cross? Are you Christian, Acario? I can attend church with you anytime.” She said battering her eyelashes. Didn’t she know Church was a holy place? If she stepped foot into a church she would most probably burst into flames. Liana snorted at the image, causing Lisa to glare at her,
“What’s your problem, freak?” Liana was about to reply but Acario beat her to it,
“Don’t ever call her that again.” He grabbed the cross angrily, “This is for Liana, not you, don’t take other people’s stuff, now go away.” With that he handed the cross to Liana and Lisa stormed off.
“You didn’t have to do that.”
“I wanted to. I don’t let people insult my friends like that,” Friend? Liana felt a surge of happiness-she had a friend.
“Thanks.”
“Liana, be careful, Lisa will get revenge.” Tyler commented, watching the girl glaring at the two. Liana shrugged just as the teacher came in, starting the class.
The day passed by pretty quickly but Liana did not miss all the whispers and funny glances cast her way. Everybody was wondering why the new hot guy ditched the most popular girl in school for the freak of the school. Lisa’s friends also upped the bullying and wrote her nasty notes or tripped her up, of course only when Acario wasn’t looking. This didn’t bother her at all though because she had a friend and that’s all that mattered to her.
“Let’s go ten pin bowling!” Acario announced just as the final bell rang. Liana looked at him in surprise,
“Ten pin bowling? Why?”
“Because I want to! I’ll pay so let’s go” With that he grabbed her hand and dragged her out the door. The ten pin bowling place was only a five minute walk from the school and it was in a large building which also had a game centre, pool tables, laser tag and a café. ‘The Relief’, as it was called, was a hangout for all the cool people from school so Liana had only been a couple of times.
“Lisa will be there.”
“Who cares? I want to bowl, so let’s bowl!” So Liana found herself being dragged to The Relief and even looking forward to it slightly. True to his word, Acario paid for everything and soon Liana was standing in smelly, second hand shoes with a fluorescent pink ball in her hand.
“Oh, don’t choke!” Acario said just as she bowled, causing her to lose concentration and only hit one pin.
“You must suck if you have to psyche me out!” She grabbed her ball again, but this time ignored Acario and managed to get a spare.
They were halfway through the game and Liana found herself laughing more that she had in a long time. She was thoroughly enjoying herself, until Lisa and three of her friends took the lane next to theirs.
“Oh, Acario! I didn’t see you there.” Liana rolled her eyes as the blonde bimbo acted surprised.
“What, are you blind?” Acario bit back as he took his ball, bowling a strike. “Now that is how you bowl! Would you like me to teach you?” He teased Liana but Lisa picked up on the opportunity,
“Oh, Acario, I need some lessons, please teach me.” Liana laughed, highly amused by the desperation, which caused four sets of eyes to glare at her.
“You can’t teach an old dog new tricks.” Liana laughed even more as she made her way to the balls. Just as she was about to pick her ball up, Lisa placed her hand on it and said in a very low voice,
“Don’t think you’re cool you little skank. I know you did some little witchy spell to make him like you.”
“If you know that then you know better than to piss me off. Who knows, I may make you ugly.” She then knocked away Lisa’s hand and bowled. Lisa didn’t try to engage Acario in conversation for the rest of the game but her and her friends didn’t stop glaring at Liana which made her uncomfortable. What had started out as a great afternoon was quickly becoming a nightmare.
“Do you want to play another game?”
“Nah, I just want to go home.” Liana replied, pulling off her shoes and putting her own one’s back on.
“We could go play pool or something.”
“And have them take the table next to us? No thanks,”
“I’m sorry, Liana.” She looked up in surprise,
“What?”
“It’s because of me that it wasn’t fun for you today.” She smiled,
“It was fun, Acario, please don’t apologise. Let’s just try to do it another day when the bitch queen and her minions aren’t here.”
“Ok. Let’s go home then. Can I hang out at your place?” Liana grinned happily,
“Now that sounds like fun!” They made their way to the shoe counter and returned their shoes but as they turned to go outside, Lisa was blocking their way.
“Oh my freaking god, Lisa, he doesn’t like you! Just get over it!” Lisa shot Liana a look of deep loathing before smiling sweetly at Acario,
“Hey, Acario, a bunch of us are going to the lake for a few drinks tonight if you want to come with,”
“You’re drinking on a Tuesday? Alcoholic much?”
“I didn’t ask you, freak.” Liana could feel the anger coming off Acario but he smiled at Lisa,
“Ok, Lisa, I didn’t want to hurt your pride but you are forcing me to. I will never ever want to be with you, ok? Never. Also please stay away from Liana and I. Oh, and another thing, Liana is my girlfriend,”
“He says he’s sorry,” Tyler whispered into her ear before Acario bent down and pressed his lips against hers.
