There is a picture of Liana's dress on the side.

Chapter Fifteen

A week later Liana awoke to a popper,

“Happy birthday!” Her Mum stood at the end of her bed with a popper in hand and a party hat on her head,

Liana smiled, “Good morning,” She sat up, rubbing sleep from her eyes,

“Morning my beautiful adult child! Here,” Her Mum handed her a present, “This is one of them,”

“One of them?”

“There’s a couple more. Anyway, open it!” The gift was a small rectangular box wrapped in red cellophane. She unwrapped it to reveal a cardboard box which she soon opened,

“Keys?” She looked at her Mum quizzically. Her Mum replied by dragging her out of bed and outside to the driveway where there stood a blue ’96 Toyota Corolla,

“Keys for that!” Her Mum grinned as Liana’s mouth fell open,

“A car!?” She squealed, hugging her Mum, “Oh my god!” She ran over to the car and quickly unlocking the doors before slipping in,

“How do you like it?” Her Mum was leaning against the door with a big smile on her face.

“I love it! I can’t believe I have a car!” She climbed out and hugged her Mum again, “Thank you so much.”

“No problem. Thought that with you going off to university next year, you would need a car. I’m glad you like it but I think we should go have breakfast,”

Liana had to agree but she didn’t want to leave her newly acquired car, “You’ll have plenty of time to drive it later. Come on,” Her Mum had to drag her away from it, “Food, Liana!” Her Mum laughed, “Oh I’m worried about you.” Liana reluctantly took her eyes off the car and walked into the dining room where she found another present. This one was a rather large rectangular box,

“Mum! The car was enough,” She said but she was already ripping off the paper. She opened the box to reveal a simple yet elegant black dress.

“It’s for the party.”

Liana pulled it out of the box, “It’s beautiful!” The dress had a strap across one shoulder and just under the chest area there was a black ribbon. It was knee length and Liana knew she was going to look great in it.

“A beautiful dress for a beautiful daughter,” Her Mum kissed her forehead, making her smile in happiness,

“Mum, you’re the best,”

“I know. Now enjoy your breakfast,” Her Mum placed a plate of strawberry pancakes in front her, “Your favourite.”
