Chapter One
Liana awoke with a start,
“Ugh, Flora, shut up!” She yelled, throwing a pillow in the general direction of the old lady who, at the moment, happened to be wailing. Flora chuckled as the pillow went straight through her,
“It’s time to get up, Liana. I must say, I am quite the alarm clock, am I not?” Liana sat up, brushing her long blonde hair out of her eyes.
“You are the worst! Wailing!? Really!?”
“Hey, I said your name a few times but you were too far gone. Now get out of bed or I’ll start wailing again” Liana groaned but swung her legs over the edge of the queen sized bed. She looked around the room, trying to clear her blurry vision.
Her room was a simple, classic room. The walls were painted in a light blue and the ceiling a creamy white. Next to the door was a chest of drawers with six drawers to hold Liana’s clothes. On top of the drawers was a lamp along with various other items such as a hairbrush, a notebook, keys and her beloved pink iPod. Next to the drawers there was a gap until the wardrobe which was in the corner of the room. The wardrobe had a simple, white door and the contents ranged from jackets to dresses with boxes lining the floor. Next to the wardrobe was a queen sized bed, situated in the middle of the wall which was covered in black sheets and a white duvet which was now pulled back. Then last of all was the window. Liana loved the window the most as it held a large ledge, big enough to sit on and it opened out into the small forest situated to the side of the house. She loved to sit there write. Whenever she got stuck, she would just stare out into the forest until she was struck with inspiration.
Liana rubbed her eyes, finally being able to see as she made her way to the chest of drawers. She grabbed a pair of black skinny jeans and a black and red stripy top and made her way to the bathroom. She turned the water on before stripping off her clothes and stepping under the hot stream. She sighed as she started to wash. Today was the first day of her final high school year. One more year left before she would have to start fending for herself at University.
Liana lived in Tauranga, New Zealand but intended on moving to Auckland to attend Auckland University. She was looking forward to moving to a big city but was a bit apprehensive about leaving her Mum. Liana’s Mum was a lawyer and so she worked long hours and Liana normally did the chores and cooking. When she went off to University, she would be constantly worried about whether her Mum was eating properly or if the house was being cleaned. Liana shook these thoughts away as she rinsed out the conditioner from her hair, a lot could happen in one year. Liana turned off the water, stepped out reaching for her towel and dried herself. She wiped the condensation from the mirror and stared at her reflection.
Liana had light blonde, almost white, hair which hung down the middle of her back. Her eyes were big and sky blue, she had a small button nose and big, full, rosy lips. She brushed her hair before putting it up into a ponytail, she then got dressed before opening the door only to be scared half to death by Flora who was standing in the doorway.
Flora was a little old lady with white hair and a slim frame. Flora had a slight hunchback but what she lacked in height, she made up in personality. Flora had been with Liana since she was a kid and was a guardian, but don’t be fooled because she was a mischievous old woman.
