"He'll find me..." Lex whispered into her knees, "This is the first place he'll look."

She was resting in the middle of my bed, hiding behind my comforter. She was still shaken up from today. When I touched her the slightest she'd jump, "Don't focus on him! Maybe my mom could h---"

"No! We can't tell her!" She cut me off, eyes widening. Pushing the covers away from her body, she walked over to me, laying her head on my shoulders, "I'm just afraid of what she may think..."

I could see where she was coming from. My mom didn't know Lex that well, every time she came home Lex would already be gone. I'm pretty sure my mom doesn't believe Lex exists, seeing as though she's never seen her. But my mom isn't one to judge or be shady, someone needed to know what was going on here. I couldn't just hide the fact I was keeping a girl in her house that she'd never even met and my reason for doing it.

Lex draped her arms around my shoulder, positioning her head in the crook of my neck. I pulled her over me, squeezing her tight. I wanted her to know I was here for her, I'd do anything for her.

We sat for what seemed like hours. The house was eerily quiet, the only thing I could hear were the spacey breaths being emitted from Lex, who had fallen asleep in my arms. I didn't want to move, afraid I would wake her. She looked peaceful, blissfully sleeping like she had nothing to worry about. Sleeping is the one escape from reality, dreaming away all the troubles brought on by life, forgetting everything for maybe a moment or two. I didn't want to disturb that.

"Well, you dawned on me and you bet I felt it. I tried to be chill, but you're so hot that I melted. I fell right through the cracks... Now I'm trying to get baaack---"

She moaned, tilting her head up at me as I stopped my melody and gazed down on her. Her green eyes so captivating, she smiled at me, "Why did you stop? That's my favorite song."

My front door opened with a sound of someone coming through. The door closed and footsteps shuffled downstairs, a familiar voice calling for me, "AUSTIN!"

Lex jumped, wiping her face and staring back at me, "It's just my best friend. YEAH! I'M UP HERE!"

His light footsteps shot up the staircase, making their way down the hall to my room, "Dude, who's that d---"

He paused staring down at me and a girl he's never seen before. Lex and I separated, "Um... Wow, this is awkward..."

Every head turned downstairs, hearing loud knocks come from the front door, "Alex, who else did you bring here?"

"No one..." He trailed off, tapping my doorframe staring at Lex, "But some guy was sitting in an old truck across the street watching the house."

Lex shot to her feet, a look of terror spreading across her face. The knocks grew louder each time, "What did he look like?"

"Rough, really mean, blue eyes. I dunno, its dark out there, I didn't get a good look at the guy."

Lex rushed over to me, breathing heavily, "Austin! I told you! Oh my god, he's gonna kill me..."

"Alex, did you lock the door when you came in?"

"Yeah, he was creeping me out..."

I pushed past him, walking to the end of the hallway, peeking around the corner just enough to see the front door. Just what I thought, his silver crew cut showing in the window of the door. I cursed under my breath, walking into my mom's room, running over to her window to look out in the street. His rustic truck parked out front, "I don't get it, what's wrong?"

The excessive blows to my door kept coming, "I know she's in there, kid! Open up!"

Lex clamped her hand over her mouth, whining in them. She backed into my closet, her eyes glossy trying to hold back more tears, "Lex, everything's gonna be fine! Just stay here!"

"Austin, who's that guy?!" Alex stopped me peeking out of windows, I was running through the house shutting off lights. Anything to avoid being seen.

"It's her dad!"
