I smiled, clapping with the rest of the cast and crew, some of them cheering. The first reading of the Pilot episode of Supernatural had just finished, and I could feel the excitement buzzing in the room.

Closing my sketchbook, I looked to Avi as he stood. "Okay, last few minute things, everyone. Remember to meet with our wonderful costume director, Bonnie Mannix," he said."And then please sit down with our great makeup and hair director, Mitchell Grassi." I smiled, waving while everyone looked between Bonnie and I.

There were only seventeen actors for the episode, along with a handful of extras. Most of the roles were smaller, meaning not too much work for me.
The less time on screen they had, the less focus on detail they needed.

No, there were only three actors and three actresses I wanted to focus on: Sarah as the Woman in White, Jeremy Michael Lewis as Jensen Moore, Samantha Smith as Mary Winchester, Jeffrey Dean Morgan as John Winchester, and last but not least, probably the most two important characters- Kirstin Maldonado as Samantha Winchester, and Scott Hoying as Dean Winchester.

Talking with all the cast was a priority, of course, but I really wanted to talk with Kirstin and Scott. As the main characters for the show, I would be working with them the most. I just wanted to make sure I had a good grip on their characters, and them.

"Kirstin, Scott," Avi called, the two looking up at him. Avi nodded over to me, telling them, "Come meet Mitchell."

I stood, smiling as I tried to calm my nerves. The three joined me, Avi smiling widely. "Mitch, meet our two main characters. Scott, Kirstin, meet Mitch, our director for hair and makeup."

I held out a hand, saying, "It's good to meet you both."

"You too," Kirstin replied, shaking my hand.

Scott reached out next, and my nerves suddenly spiked as I felt his soft skin, the man's handshake firm.

"How big is the hair and makeup team?" Scott asked, smiling curiously at me.

"Just me for the Pilot," I replied, holding my sketchbook closer to me.

"What?" Kirstin and Scott asked together, their eyebrows shooting up.

I laughed as Avi held up his hands. "If CW does take on the show, we're planning on hiring more crew members, including more makeup and hair members."

"Even with more crew though, you both will come to me," I told them.

"Sounds perfect," Scott said, smiling.
"Well, I will let you three talk," Avi said, smiling before walking away. "David!"

I slowly sat back in my chair, both people pulling chairs to face me. "What do you want to talk to us about?" Kirstin asked.

"You two," I said, opening my sketchbook back up. "And your characters, obviously."

They both laughed, making me join. I could already see the bond between them forming, and I could only hope they would grow closer to each other, and maybe even closer to me.

"Well, I think we can do that," Scott told me, smiling widely.

My smile softened, and I flipped to Scott's page, as it was before Kirstin's. During the script reading, I had sketched rough ideas for hair and makeup for most of the cast. It was all small sketches, ideas, thoughts, questions for the cast. But those sketches, and talking with the actors, would help make my job a little easier.

"I do have to tell you both that I may work a little differently than what you're use to," I said, looking between them. "I've cut hair for years, but this is my first job on a set for hair and makeup."

"That's great!" Kirstin cried, smiling widely. "Everyone has to start somewhere."

Scott nodded in agreement. "It just means you have a different perspective," he told me. "Which isn't bad, at all."

"Thank you," I replied, feeling relieved. I was worried for days about meeting the cast and crew, especially with no past in the film industry. But it looked like I had nothing to worry about at all. Between Avi, Scott, and Kirstin, I had a feeling that acceptance would not be an issue.

"So, we don't have to do this today, but I wanted to talk to you both about hair and makeup," I explained. "Makeup won't be a big deal, just cover up, maybe a few things to accent your features for the camera."

"Really? Not a lot of makeup?" Kirstin asked.

I shook my head. "Not for Scott. You, though, look beautiful in the plain makeup you have on now. So we'll have to see what we can do for you." I answer. Kirstin blushes in response.

"What about hair?" Scott asked, leaning forward.

"I want your hair styles and cuts to reflect your characters," I told them. "Avi, David and I have talked a little, but they trust my judgement. And as you each know your characters better than I do, I wanted to plan with you both."

"Wow," Kirstin muttered, surprise written all over her face.

"We can talk now, if you want," Scott said, glancing at his costar.

Kirstin nodded, standing. "I can talk with Bonnie until you're ready for me."

"Perfect," I stated, smiling widely.
Kirstin looked between me and Scott, smiling as she moved to the costume director. "Have fun!"

As she walked away, Scott turned back to me. "So, where do we start?" He asked, looking into my eyes.

I pulled out my pencil, flipping to a new page, labeling the top as Scott's notes. Looking back into his bright, mesmerizing eyes, I asked, "What kind of man is Dean Winchester?"

Scott let out a thoughtful breath, before replying slowly, "Dean is the kind of man who likes it simple."

Scott looked at his hands as he spoke, and as he did you could feel the connection between Scott and Dean already. "He likes hunting and living on the edge, but still wants life to be predictable- diner food, one night stands, bars, and the Impala."

I wrote down shortened versions of his words, an image starting to form in my head. "So...a simple hair style, yet something that looks good on him."

"Oh yeah," Scott agreed, smiling. "Something that sets him apart, that matches his old leather jacket, maybe even something that looks good without much work."

I tilted my head, looking over Scott's profile. Setting my sketchbook aside, I held up my hands. "May I?"

"Please," Scott replied, sitting up straight as I stood, moving to stand behind him.

I ran my fingers through his hair, smiling at how smooth his hair was. The color was amazing, matching his skin just right. And it was flexible, in the way that I could work easily with it for cutting and styling. I could feel my heartbeat speed up slightly as I ran my fingers through his hair slowly, feeling Scott relax slowly as I did so.

"So you won't mind if I cut your hair, do you?" I asked softly.

"No," Scott replied, his voice softer as well. "I've meaning to cut it recently."

"Perfect," I said, pulling my hands away from his hair, and moving back to my seat."When do you want to do that?"

Scott took a deep breath, smiling as he looked into my eyes. "How does tomorrow work?"

"Sounds wonderful," I said, smiling at him. "How about one?"

"Awesome," Scott said, nodding. "But only if you have lunch with me first."

I tried not to blush as I nodded. "I think I can do that."
