Nicki didn't move as she took in everything her mother had said to her and after that it was all just a blur. She didn't remember getting up, getting dressed and putting herself in the passenger seat of her mom's old beat up Toyota Corolla. Nicki bit her lip and played with her hands as her mother drove through the light drizzling rain. The sun was on its way up and the clock on the dashboard read a quarter to six. Nicki didn't know what to do with herself but the sound of her mother's gospel music didn't calm her nerves like it usually did.

Gradually her mother brought the car to a stop at a red light and Nicki's eyes widened as she readied herself to run out the car but then took in her surrounding making her slump back into her chair.

"What has gotten into you, honestly?" Carol asked and Nicki thought to herself, trying to carefully piece together her words so she could make this matter go away.

"Nothing, I'm just worried about Drake. That's all."

"Alright, then explain your attitude when you got home then. What was going on there?"

"Nothing mommy I promise," Nicki groaned and kept her eyes outside the window, trying to get something, anything to catch her attention and make her seem less guilty.

"Did Aubrey do something to you? Did the both of you get into an argument or something?" Carol asked and pushed the car forwards when the light turned green.

"No, we didn't get into any arguments." Nicki explained. 'We barely talked in the first place,' Nicki thought to herself and Carol watched the road.

"Well then what happened? Usually you come home from being with him in such a good mood, and now you barely want to speak to me, Onika I'm not dumb." Carol said and Nicki's heart rate sped up as her body pricked with a nervous sweat about to break.

"Y-you're not," Nicki affirmed but it came out sounding more like a question than an affirmation.

"I know exactly what happened," Carol said and Nicki turned to look at her, hoping that her usually oblivious mother would let this one thing go. "You and Aubrey did get into a fight and you felt guilty about how you left things," Carol said and Nicki let out a silent breath of relief as her mother parked. The pair got out after Nicki said she didn't want to talk about her and Drake's argument any further, her mother respecting that given the current situation.

The pair entered through the main doors and stepped up the front desk. An elderly nurse looked up at them . "May I help you?"

"Yes I was wondering which room had an Aubrey Graham in it,"

"Alright give me a moment." she said and looked through her computer. "It says here he's in room 203, second floor." she explained before both Nicki and Carol thanked her and walked away. Nicki tried her best to remain calm but all she could picture is Drake laid up in a body cast or him laying unconscious covered in scars and bruises, his fragile body surround by beeping machines and varrying coloured wires. The closer and closer they got to his room the more and more panic she felt until finally she was able to knock on the door and Sandi answered, automatically wrapping her arms around Nicki.

"He's just fine dear," she said and let Nicki go when she felt the teenager relax.

"Really?" she asked quietly.

"Go see for yourself," Sandi said and Nicki walked past her to the bed where Drake sat grumbling to himself as he flipped for the television channels trying to find something to watch.

"Why do I have to stay here!" he groaned, throwing his head back onto the pillows in frustration. Nicki looked at him and saw his arm in a cast and a patch on his leg. She almost within the blink of an eye, had her body wrapped around his as she buried her face in his neck. "Woah Nic, I'm fine, still a bit sore though so can you let up on the grip a bit?" he asked and Nicki look up at him blushing.
