May 17th was like any other day for Spencer Jill Hastings.

Wake up, go to school, do homework, eat, then sleep.

Sure, it wasn't the greatest time a a teenager could be having. But it was a absolute necessity in her families eyes so she could get into their dream school, Oxford.

As Spencer was sitting on her bed completing her AP-Calc homework, she heard her mother weakly knock on the door. The door swung open, she was greeted by a broken Veronica Hastings.

Her mother never cried, and if she did, something life changing happened.

"Mom?" She whispered in concern, sliding off her bed.

"Something happened...I just got off the phone with Toby's father."

With those few words, Spencer knew something had happened to him. Their parents were what some may call enemies and the fact that they were talking said something.

"Is Toby ok?" She dared to ask.

"Toby...He was driving out of rosewood for a job in assuming, when a drunk driver..." She stopped, knowing Spencer knows what happens next.

Though she already knew the answer, she continued to question her mom.

"What happened to him?" She whispered, glancing over at a portrait on her dresser.

"I'm so sorry," she cried to her daughter, knowing this would cause a life long destruction in Spencer's life. Toby was practically the only thing keeping Spencer sane and alive, so now what?

Spencer sat in her bed, motionless, processing the information.

Her Toby was dead, he was dead. And there was no way she could bring him back.

She didn't even get to say goodbye.

-

"Are you sure you have to go....I mean you could just stay with me." Spencer said in a whiny tone.

"Baby, you know I would if I could, but this job will give me the last bit of the money to build our house." He said cupping her jaw in his hands, planting a kiss on her lips. She had to admit, he was right. The quicker they could gather their money the quicker they could start the lives they've been dreaming of.

"Ok." She said looking down at hardwood floor, she really didn't want Toby to go. She had a bad feeling in her gut about it.

"I'll be back in three days. I promise you that." He said planting one final kiss on her lips before wrapping her small body in his arms.

"I love you so much." She mumbled into his shoulder.

"I wanted to say that first," he smiled walking out of the door not letting go of her hand until she wasn't in reaching distance.

She watched him leave the property, and smiled, knowing she'd be spending the rest of her life with that man.

-

Her whole body practically shut down. The words Toby's dead repetitively rang in her ears. She couldn't possibly live in a world without Toby. Ever. He was her rock, her safe place to land. And now he was gone, in the blink of an eye.

-

Sweat dropped down her porcelain skin as Spencer jolted up in the bed her and Toby had shared.

"Hey," Toby said making sure his wife was alright "you're alright, I'm alright, it was just another night terror." He said grabbing her his water.

"The same one again?"

"Yeah..." She unsteady breathed "Cavanaugh if you ever die on me, you're a dead man!" She exclaimed.

"I can't be a dead man if I'm already dead," he stated matter of factly.

"Shut up." she giggled laying down on his chest.

"Love you too the moon and back." She tiredly mumbled.

"Too the moon and back."

Ok so if y'all don't know, this was my first one shot! I decided to revise it (bc my grammar in 6th grade was SHIT) and do an alternative ending. (In the first version Toby was dead and Spencer killed herself, dark right?)
But I just wanted to make this happy and a good start for readers who are just finding me!
If you enjoyed and want to see more like this, let me know!
