Cora's POV

* * * * * * *

On hour later

* * * * * * * * *

Now I had two giant wings sticking out of my back none of my tops fitted me and I didn't have any clothes to wear as I opted for more practical clothes when I ran. Cole had left a few minutes ago saying Ivan needed to talk to him and he needed to get ready for everyone coming. A hammering on my door yanked me from my thoughts.

"Cora open up. I've got a surprise for you, it's a kind of an apology as well for earlier." It was Ruby. I hope this is a good surprise. Opening the door I saw Ruby with clothes. That's one problem solved.

"How long till they're here?"

"Two hours till the first people arrive, they're coming in from London. I thought you might like these clothes, they'll make you fit in a bit more."

"Sure, now people will forget the giant pair of wings. . . . Thanks for the clothes." She handed me the clothes and then left me alone. Crossing to the bathroom, I got changed into the clothes I had been given and looked in the mirror. The girl who looked back at me was a complete stranger. Wings with feathers darker than a ravens, long black hair, silver eyes and pale skin. Maybe the silver eyes came with the wings.

The clothes Ruby had given me were a tight black top which had a back low enough for my wings to stick out but high enough to still be warm, black leather trousers with black boots. Exiting the bathroom, I saw Alec sat on the edge of my bed. He stood when he saw me. For some reason he looked really nervous, he could be here to kill me, who knows.

"I'm here to apologies for my behavior towards you. Ruby and Cole are my family and I didn't want to see them hurt. We didn't know you and I assumed the worst about you, it's my job to protect them and I'm sorry for the way I behaved. Please forgive me." I was shocked. Alec was apologizing to me. This seems out of character for him.

"You are forgiven, I get why you did it, and I'm the same with my friend Bella. I knocked out her last boyfriend and brock his jaw. To be fair, he had it coming. That guy was a complete idiot." Alec smiled at this.

"I did the same to someone Ruby was dating. He had cheated on her. Oh, I brought you sandwich as I thought you might be hungry." He was right, I was willing to eat a whole horse raw. Handing me the sandwich he headed for the door. "I've got to get ready." With that he left me to my thoughts. Now I was alone I decided to examine my wings closely. Stretching them to their full length, they touched both walls. I had a wingspan of about ten meters. It suddenly dawned on me the possibility's my wings brought. I could fly. Good buy visas and passports!

Folding my wings neatly behind my back, I crossed to the door and went out into the corridor. It had been a while since Alec had visited me and people should start getting here soon. Moving along the corridor I sort of recognized, it was near the training room. I'll go there and see if I can find anyone. Turning around the corner I saw Ivan and Cole heading my way. Both of them stopped when they saw me as if there was something they didn't want me to know. I approached them confidently and stopped in front of them.

"What are you guys talking about?" They looked at each other nervously.

"The first people have arrived. It's the leader of the council, Martha Dixon aka The Dragon. I've seen her in action and she is fierce, watch out." Ivan and Cole started to look uncomfortable. So Cole thinks she's a dragon, let's see if she breathes fire. As I manage to annoy every important person I meet this shouldn't too hard to get along with her or at least make her like me a little.

"Is there anything else I should know before I go and see this dragon lady?" I looked them both up and down. "Ivan is there something else you want to say?" He was looking particularly shifty. Always a bad sign. I once lived in a bad neighborhood and I know how to tell when someone is up to something.

"There are some tests she wants to do to see if you're really an angel. I don't know what they are but I would watch out if I were you." Good to know, I'm going to meet a psycho that may or may not try to torture me. Fun. Well, I guess it's time to face the dragon.

"Lead on." Haven't I said this before to someone? I think it was to Cole.

"Are you sure you want to meet her just yet?" Ivan asked. Something is defiantly not right here, if he doesn't want me to see her then maybe I should.

"I want to get this over with." What's the worst that can happen? Probably shouldn't think about that. I followed Cole and Ivan down a load of corridors and stairs until we went into a huge library, and when I say huge, it was about four stories high and every wall had a bookcases full of books and scrolls. In the center was a woman in her sixties with dark brown hair and eyes. Behind her were four huge brawny guys that were obviously her guards. Ruby and Alec were already here, Alec was leaning against a desk and Ruby was sat on the steps.

"You must be Cora. I have heard about you. So the rumors are true. You have wings." Rumors? What Rumors? Her guards suddenly lunged forwards and I was pinned against the floor. Alec, Cole and Ruby tried to fight them but more guards seemed to materialize out of thin air and pinned them as well.

No matter how much I tried to fight I couldn't get free. The dragon lady just stood there and smiled, why? Why was she doing this? A man walked out of the shadows with a syringe, he came towards me and I fought all the harder. One guard pulled my arm out straight and I felt him stab the syringe in my arm. I could feel whatever it was being pumped around my body as I floated away into the darkness.

Cole's POV

In a flurry of activity, Cora was pinned to the floor by Martha's guards. All of us except Ivan rushed forwards to help Cora but more guards materialized out of the shadows and pinned us all down. Looks like Martha's gone mad or has decided to change sides along with all of her guards. No matter how hard we fight none of us could get free. Managing to turn my head slightly, I saw someone inject Cora with something that looked nasty. Was it even supposed to be green?

Six guards pinned her to the floor but she gradually became limper until she went still. . More people came out of the shadows until there were three. A guard pulled my arm out straight and I saw the same thing happening to Alec and Ruby. I barely felt the sting of the needle but oblivion soon clamed me as it did Ruby and Alec.
