Cole's POV
You have no idea how hard it is to find one person called Cora in a city. There are over a thousand girls called Cora. Once we had an address, Ivan sent me as I'm the one who can take a hit without giving it back. Alec and Ruby would seriously hurt here if she fought back.
When I got to the house, I saw her grab small bag then launch herself out the open window. At the last second, she spun and got a firm grip on the drain pipe. My heart leapt into my mouth when I thought she wasn't going to make it. This was odd because I didn't actually know her. She climbed to the roof and started to run. Nimble as a minx, she leaped like a cat from roof to roof. Not slipping or stumbling.
When she reached the empty factory yard, which came to life at night with music and games. It was a black light party. She jumped off the two story roof I thought it would end with a broken leg. She walked away. Any normal person would be writhing on the ground in agony but not her, she walked away without a scratch on her. She was defiantly not human.
She has good taste, I'll give her that. I stood on the outskirts of the crowd. Some would've regarded me with curiosity, the rest with fear. I decided to hang back in the shadows so she wouldn't see me, it would be better to corner her in an ally alone.
She turned and saw me, my heart leaped into my throat. Then when she turned back to her friend and carried on talking, I don't think she see me. She then took off across the streets and rounded a corner, I followed waiting form my chance to get her. Looking round the corner, she was at the other end of the street and running towards the mouth of an alley fast, she saw me. Defiantly saw me. Shrugging, I took off at a run.
Cora's POV
He thought I didn't see him. Rule number one of fighting, never think an enemy hasn't seen you if your trying to hide unless you're very good at it. It's the only way to survive, if you think you've been see, get out of there as soon as possible. I ran down the nearest alley to find a roof access point. I'm the best free runner in the country, I think. I've never actually been in a competition though but I can run fast and I've beaten every free runner I've ever met. He is going down.
The drain pipe was old but sturdy, thought for a moment I thought it was going to give way and I would can crashing down to earth. Once on the roof tops I plotted the root I would be taking, the tumbler or the flats. Flats would be easier but the tumbler would be faster.
Taking the flats would delay me by ten minutes which could mean I get captured, if I took the tumbler there was a high risk that I could fall to my death. The tumbler was a rout I use in emergencies because it meant I had to cross a few abandoned factory roofs. Loose tiles and rotting beams don't do well with people running over them. In some sections if you don't know the right root then the roof will give way.
I've seen it happen, this one kid ran too much to the right and then broke both his legs and had to stay in the hospital for ages. Speed over safety, it'll work. I hope. If not I won't have to worry about the crazy dude after me, it'll be the fall that'll kill me.
Doing a quick 360 turn I saw that the invisible man was gaining ground and fast. He was fast but he's in my world now. Hurtling at brake neck speed, I crossed the tumbler. At one point the boards that were supporting me creaked worryingly beneath my weight. I froze. This was bad, very bad. The wrong path, I'd taken the wrong path. This has given me the right to say again that this is bad, very bad.
One leap to the left, three short jumps to the right and I was safe. I looked back across the roof, he was stood there just watching from the other side of the tumbler. I smiled my biggest grin and carried on running. This was absolutely hilarious, he thought he could beat me at my own game. I had been doing this for years now. . . . And then came the let down. One block to my house, I checked my left.
He had crossed a different way and was gaining ground. Oh hell. Half a block. Quarter of a block. Fingertips graze the back of my jacket. Move faster, stupid leg. I landed on my roof and jumped off it and grabbed the drain pipe above my room. Flying through the window and slammed it shut behind me. Close but not close enough
After a few minutes, I checked out my window and saw a dark figure walk across my garden and lean against a lamppost outside my house. Creepy or what, I walked down the stairs knowing that I should arm myself. Knives would be good, nice and pointy. I could get a frying pan and hit him in the face if he tries to break in.
Cole's POV
Cora was climbing a drain pipe when I go into the alley. To get to the roof she was on, I jumped onto a bin and leaped at the wall opposite. Grabbing the drainpipe I pull myself up and run after the girl. She quickly does a three hundred and sixty turn and then ran faster than I have ever seen anyone run before, turning right she started to run across factory roofs but I took a short cut and came around on the other side.
The girl was still in front of me was still moving fast but I was gaining ground my fingers brushed the back of her jacket. I would have got her then but she jumped off the roof suddenly and swung herself into her room. I jumped off the roof and walked to the street light and leaned against it. I was letting her know that I wasn't going anywhere and I was going to catch her in the end.
