Cora's POV
"Who are you and what do you want?" I said softly. It had been ten seconds since the stranger had spoken but no one had moved. In a sudden flurry of activity, my new friends had surrounded me with their weapons drawn. They were expecting a fight. Not taking her eyes off the stranger, Ruby handed me a sword. It had a blue handle and the rest of it was silver, the blade was slightly curved. Looking at the others, I copied the same stance as the others.
"I'm not here to fight, quite the opposite in fact. My name is Michael, and I here to protect Cora." So an Archangel is here to protect me. Great, what I want to know is why? Why do I need an Archangel to protect me? Does this mean someone really bad, bad enough to warrant an Archangels protection, is after me?
"Why are you going to protect me?" Not that I want to offend him but it doesn't seem the kind of thing an angel would do out of the kindness of his heart. Probably means more trouble is coming my way. Perfect.
"When you were born, God gave you power like nothing the world has ever seen. You could destroy the world or save it. God himself told me to protect you and then he left heaven, no one has seen him since. I decided it's time showed myself considering resent events." Before I could reply or even process what I have been just told, Alec jumped in.
"So you watched her be tortured?" Did he?
"I wanted to help but it needed to happen. It accessed one of her powers, accelerated healing." Well if that's how I access my powers, I'm fine as I am. No more powers needed here. No thank you. I'm good.
"Does that mean every time she accesses her powers, she will have to be tortured?" It was Ruby that jumped in this time. Cole stayed silent and looked as if he was trying to work this all out in his head. Good luck with that as I have no idea myself, ever since I met this lot I've gave up trying to understand everything. From outside somewhere in the night, there was an inhuman howl but it didn't sound like a wolf or a dog or anything I've ever heard before.
"What the hell was that?" I exclaimed. Cole, Ruby, Alec and even Michael looked worried, it isn't good if it even has an Archangel worried. "What's out there?"
"Demons are hunting, they're using hellhounds to track someone or something. They're probably after us. We have to go now." So not only do we have the council and all Hybrids from around the world after us but now we're being hunted down by demons. Is there any way my week could get any worse?
"What do we do? Do we fight?" I asked.
"No, I get you and your friends to safety. Then I will fight them, we cannot risk you being harmed or killed. I know some human hunters that will help you as they don't like the council. They are friends of mine and owe me a favor, now is the time I will call upon that." Now we have something to aim for, not just surviving the night.
"How do we get there, the council and demons are searching the city for us." Cole finally spoke and he had a point. How are we supposed to get out of the city with everyone looking for us, they were probably watching all the roads out of the city. There was no way out.
"There is no way out on the surface yes, but if we went through the sewer then we could get out without any trouble." Oh hell no! I do not care if I die in this city, I'm not going in the sewers. Actually, I've changed my mind, sewers are ok as I don't want to die just yet. I hope I can hold my breath for a very long time.
"And how do we get to the sewers without demons or any council members seeing us? Not that I don't like the plan but its dawn and we're going to be seen by anyone looking for us. We could get trapped in the sewers. We should wait here until dark and then go across the roves. If we cross the slums, we won't be seen and we can get out of the city." I know Cole can do parkour and Michael can fly ahead. The question is if Alec and Ruby know any parkour, I assume that they got the same training as Cole so they probably know some parkour.
"If we do it your way we have to be careful but it might work. Do you three think you can do this?" I hope Ruby and Alec can because if they can't we have to go through the sewers and I will not be held accountable for my actions.
"We all took parkour classes as part of our training. We can do this." Good, no smell and no sewers. All we have to do is wait for nightfall then we're out of here.
"I've been out of the city that way before, I'll show you the best way to get out of the city across the rooves." Turning to Michael, I looked at him. "Michael, do you think you can fly ahead and make sure there's the way is safe ahead?" I asked him.
"Of course." He said and we began to wait out the day.
* * * * * * *
We sat around all day talking mostly but Michael didn't join us, he sat the roof keeping watch. There were no demons or council members spotted coming for us. After a while there was nothing to talk about so we sat in different parts of the factory floor and slept. We would need all the energy we had to get out of the city. It takes twenty minutes running flat out to get out of here from the factory roof and we haven't eaten all day.
* * * * * * *
"Time to go." As soon as it went dark Michael wanted us to move out. "The longer we stay in the city, the more chance they have of finding us. Especially as they would begin to look for us in this area tonight."
"What are we waiting for then, follow me to the roof access." Poking my head out of the door, I lead the way to a drainpipe which lead to the roof of the factory. "This bit of roof top over the factories that are known as the tumbler so watch your step because you could fall through a roof or the tiles could slip. It's happened before."
I hurried as fast as I could up the drainpipe and when I got to the top, I looked down to see the others were hardly a quarter of the way up. Michael was up on the roof with a single flap of his huge, brown wings. He stopped right behind me and grabbed my arm, then he pulled me away from the edge of the roof and spun me around.
"Tell your friends to hurry up or we will have to leave them behind. They are too slow and are going to get you killed." So Mr. I'm-an-Archangel-so-I'm-better-than-you thinks he can tell me what to do? Good luck with that because I don't listen to my mum, my teachers and, well, anyone and I certainly won't listen to him. He may be an archangel but he will not order me around.
"You may be an Archangel Michael but I will not listen to you. They have risked everything to help me and I will not leave them behind." I started to get angry, as if he has expected me to obey his orders blindly. I'm sorry to break it to him but I'm not that kind of girl.
"I am an Archangel and you will obey me!" Michael practically shouted.
"And I don't care. You may be an Archangel but you do not control me." I almost shouted back. Michael crouched, extended his wings, and then took off flying above us. Turning around, I saw Cole pull himself onto the roof and the watched him help Alec and Ruby onto the roof.
"Where's Michael?" He asked looking around.
"He's flying above us, follow me. I know the way. Come on, let's go. Who knows what's on the rooves tonight." I said not wanting to tell them the real reason Michael wasn't on the roves with us.
