Chapter 7: Methodically Removed

The door banged open, and the pencil gripped tightly in hands flew out of my fingers with a flick. Kakashi barely dodged as it lodged itself in the drywall, point first, where his head had been a second earlier.

With a little yelp, I shot out of my seat after I realized that I had just tried to assassinate the Hokage with a pencil, wielding it like a senbon.

"Kakashi! I'm so sorry! You just really startled me right there."

He laughed and scratched the back of his neck, "No, no, you're alright. I should have knocked."

"True." I no longer felt guilty. He really needed to get over his bad habit of barging into my office. "So, what do you need?"

"Well, I was looking through mission rosters for the upcoming assignments when I had a random thought-"

I groaned, "Can you just cut to the chase?" I was getting no where with strategizing for the whole situation with my mother, and I didn't have the patience for Kakashi's ramblings right now.

"Okay. So I realized that we don't know who was on Nori's genin team. In fact, other than my father's team, Team Fang, I don't know any of the teams that she had been assigned to."

"So then why don't we go looking through the archives? All of the previous teams are listed there." Now he had my interest. This could be what I needed to reach some sort of conclusion regarding this case.

"Don't bother. I already sent Izumo and Kotetsu, and they're gone. All of the records about your mother's early career as a shinobi are gone."

"Was she just not a Leaf Village Ninja from the start?"

"No, the folders that the data had been stored in where still there, but all of the files inside were gone. Someone went through and methodically removed every trace of her old team from all of the Leaf's records."

A/N: So sorry about how slowly this has been coming out recently. I just finished "A Hole in One's Heart" which was 765 pages total so it took up a lot of my time to give it one final edit and finish everything off. Also, my last test will be on the 16th so updates will probably still be slow until after that.
