Goldenpaw awoke as the sun rose. Nervousness set in her stomach as she thought about having to go to FireClan today. She quickly hunted and caught a blue jay. She ate it and started again on her journey.
It wasn't long before she started to smell other cats. As she stepped out of the cover of a bush, a small patrol of cats jumped at her. She fought back and stopped two of the three cats. The third pinned her down.
"Who are you?" The dark grey tom growled at her.
The other two stood back up and flanked the grey tom. One was a tortoiseshell she-cat and the other was a small brown tom that looked like an apprentice.
"I-I am Goldenpaw! I came looking for FireClan!" Goldenpaw meowed to the tom.
"Featherpelt, let her go. We'll take her back to the clan." The she-cat meowed.
"Fine." Featherpelt said, and let Goldenpaw stand.
"Dappleflower, Shadepaw, you take the lead. I'll follow behind." Featherpelt said.
The three FireClan cats led Goldenpaw to a large cave. As they walked through the small tunnel-like entrance, Goldenpaw could smell a vaguely familiar smell of cats. They emerged in a large room.
Cats of all kinds looked at her with wide eyes. A dark black tom walked over to them.
"Featherpelt, who is this?" The black tom asked.
Featherpelt bowed slightly to the other cat.
"Nightstar, this is Goldenpaw. She says she came looking for FireClan." He replied.
Nightstar? Could this be her father Nightfrost? Yes, it had to be.
"Where are you from, Goldenpaw? I don't remember and of the clans having a new apprentice at the last gathering." He asked her.
What was she supposed to say? She couldn't just talk about Leopardstar in front of the clan she left!
"That is something I can only speak to you about in private." She meowed with as much courage as she could muster.
Featherpelt growled. Nightstar flicked his tail to silence him.
"Very well. Follow me." He said.
Nightstar led Goldenpaw to the other side of the cave and into a smaller cave under a ledge. He turned and sat.
"This is my den. Now, who are you?" He asked her.
Goldenpaw took a deep breath.
"I am your and Leopardstar's daughter. Well you probably know her as Leopardfur. StarClan sent me here to find you here." Goldenpaw said.
Nightstar bristled.
"Don't speak that name here! Everyone thinks she's dead! I did that to protect her!" He growled.
Goldenpaw stepped back.
"I'm sorry! I didn't know!" She yowled.
Nightstar relaxed.
"You're our daughter?" Nightstar asked looking Goldenpaw over.
"Yes." She said.
"I always hoped that you would come back." Nightstar thought for a moment.
"I know just what to do for your homecoming. Dappleflower said that you fought off all three of the cats on the patrol. Come with me." Nightstar purred and walked out of the cave.
Nightstar jumped up onto the ledge above the Leader's den and yowled.
"Let all cats old enough to journey outside of the Life Cave, gather beneath High Ledge for a clan meeting."
The whole clan gathered beneath the ledge and awaited their leaders announcement. Some sent confused glances at Goldenpaw, but most just ignored her.
He motioned for Goldenpaw to join him on the High Ledge.
"This young apprentice is very dear to me. She has been a friend to me for a long time, and I believe it's now time for her to become a warrior. I call StarClan to look down on this young cat. She is brave and strong for doing what you wish, and I know you'll accept her into your warrior ranks. From this moment on you will be known as Goldenlight. May StarClan light your path." Nightstar finished.
FireClan didn't know what to do. Suddenly, a light grey tom in the back of the clan began to chant.
"Goldenlight! Goldenlight!"
Then the whole clan began to chant her new name. Goldenlight smiled to the tom in the back. As the clan quieted down, Goldenlight and Nightstar lept off of High Ledge.
Nightstar turned to Goldenlight.
"Do you want to stay here? In FireClan?" He asked.
Goldenlight thought for a moment. Maybe StarClan sent her here to become a warrior of FireClan! Maybe that's why Firestar found her all those moons ago.
"Yes, I will." She meowed.
Nightstar purred.
"Follow me to the warrior den." He said.
He led her to a cave close to the entrance of the cave. He nodded to her, then left her to sleep. She walked into the den and several warrior eyes fell upon her. She felt her fur getting hot at the sight of so many cats staring at her. She saw the same light grey tom push his way through the other warriors.
"Hi. I'm Dustfur." He said.
Goldenlight purred. She recognized Dappleflower from earlier too. Dappleflower motioned her to come over and lay on an empty moss bed.
Goldenlight walked to her and lay down.
"Thanks." She whispered to Dappleflower, but she was already asleep.
