"-Meet my good friend, Darkstripe."

Goldenstar pelted out of the tunnel and into the moonlight. Her paws skidded as she turned to face the rouges, her fur stood on end. Goldenstar's alarm caused Silverfrost to tense up as well, although she remained sitting.

Goldenstar hissed at the dark gray tom standing in front of her. She had heard stories of Tigerstar and Darkstripe, the two toms who tried to take over the forest. Her icy blue eyes flashed as she stared into his yellow ones.

"What are you doing here?" Goldenstar hissed through clenced teeth.

Darkstripe regarded her with curiosity.

"So I'm guessing you know who I am?" He purred as he looked at her.

Goldenstar narrowed her eyes.

"Unfortunatly for you." She replied coldly.

"Well, you know me. But I do not know you. Tell me, who are you and how do you know me?" Darkstripe asked as he sat next to Thorn.

Goldenstar sighed and sat next to Silverfrost.

"That's a story for another time. For now, you may call me Goldenstar." She meowed.

Darkstripe's eyes widened.

"You're a clan leader?!" He exclaimed.

"Yes, as of tonight. But before that I was Goldenlight." She explained.

"I like that. Goldenlight." Darkstripe purred, smirking at her.

Goldenstar's fur grew hot. She didn't know why she was letting him make her feel that way, but she couldn't stop it.

"Goldenstar? We should head back to camp now." Silverfrost meowed, looking down to not meet her leader's eyes.

"You're right Silverfrost." Goldenstar said as she stood.

"We'll escort you." Darkstripe said. "Besides, I need to tell you my side of the story." He added before anyone could protest.

The four cats padded over the rocks and back into the woods, as Darkstripe told his story. Silverfrost and Thorn padded along behind, wrapped in their own conversation.

"You know the story. Tigerstar was power hungry. He created TigerClan, which in the end was defeated by Firestar. But I didn't want any of that. True, I was power hungry as well in the beginning. I did everything Tigerstar said, he was my idol. But when I almost killed that kit, I fed it death berries, I realized that I had been wrong to follow Tigerstar. But it was too late to turn back. I was in too deep. I joined Tigerstar in ShadowClan, where he ruled. But when Scourge killed him, I ran. All four clans thought I was dead, but I was just hiding. I was a rouge. Eventually I bumped into Thorn. He was a rouge around the two-leg place here. We became friends, and I told him my story. I also trained him to be a warrior. Now, we travel around looking for food and shelter. It's not a fun life, but it's better than sticking around the other four clans and being hunted." Darkstripe finished.

His gaze dropped and he looked at his paws as he walked. Goldenstar's heart hurt for the fallen warrior, but she couldn't take them into FireClan for fear of them finding out about the other four clans. But they knew that.

Goldenstar rested her tail on Darstripes shoulder. He looked at her, his eyes full of thanks. By that time they had reached the Life Cave. Goldenstar led the cats away from the camp and to a smaller cave several fox-lengths away. She then spoke to Darkstripe and Thorn.

"You two can stay here. I can't offer you a home in the clan, but this is the best I can do. No cat will come here, it's forbidden. But it's shelter for you. We'll come and bring you fresh-kill tomorrow so you can rest." Goldenstar said as the two rouges stepped into the cave.

"You don't have to do that. Thorn and I can hunt for ourselves." Darkstripe meowed.

"No, I insist. You must be tired. Rest now, and we'll be back in the morning." Goldenstar said, and she and Silverfrost padded away.

"What's going to happen to them?" Silverfrost asked as they walked back to the Life Cave.

"You will bring them prey every morning, and I will check on them every night. It will be hard, but it's our duty to help them." Goldenstar said, knowing in her heart that it was true.

Silverfrost nodded and stepped inside the cave But as Goldenstar followed, she wondered.

Was what she was feeling just her gut? Or had she begun to fall for the fallen warrior?
