Goldenstar padded back to the Life Cave, with a heavy heart and sadness filling her eyes. She slid through the entrance just as Dappleflower was getting ready to leave for the dawn patrol. Dappleflower noticed her friend's sad eyes. Alarm filled her.

"Goldenstar? What's wrong?" She exclaimed.

"S-Silverfrost.....She's dead. Killed by a monster." Goldenstar exclaimed.

"W-what?! No! That's impossible!" Dappleflower cried.

Goldenstar stepped around her friend and leapt onto High Ledge.

"Let all cats old enough to journey out of the Life Cave gather beneath High Ledge for a clan meeting." She said.

Cats began to crawl out of their dens, groggy in the moonlight. Tears began to fall from Goldenstar's eyes.

"Dear FireClan. Silverfrost hunts with StarClan tonight. A monster has taken her from us, and we aren't able to sit vigil over her body. But I say these words by the moonlight so that her spirit may hear me and aprove my choice. I choose Shadepelt to be the new deputy of FireClan."

Goldenstar saw Dappleflower glance away. Ever since she had failed to kit, she had worked extra hard in hopes of making up for the loss. Goldenstar knew that she wanted to be deputy. What she didn't know was why she didn't choose her. But she found herself saying Shadepelt's name instead of Dappleflower's.

She glanced at the new deputy then. His eyes were narrowed at her, but he glanced away before she could say anything. She jumped off of the ledge, staggering a bit from the exaustion of kitting that night. Shadepelt rushed to her side and steadied her.

"Careful, my leader. We wouldn't want you getting hurt." He said.

A shock filled her body when their fur touched. Goldenstar stood on her own and stepped away from Shadepelt so their fur was no longer touching. She knew Shadepelt could smell her milk-scent, for it was written all over his face.

"Thank you, Shadepelt. Why don't you lead the dawn patrol?" Goldenstar meowed, athority filling her voice.

Shadepelt eyed her, but nodded sharply and padded away with Dappleflower and Dustfur. Goldenstar sighed and went back to her den to sleep.

Goldenstar padded through the familiar forest of her warrior ancestors. She reached a large pool and sat down. Soon, the cats of StarClan appeared around her. Bluestar was the first to step forward. Goldenstar looked down into the pool with shame. She had lied to her clan, and now she would be punished.

"Goldenstar. Meet my eyes." Bluestar commanded.

Goldenstar lifted her head.

"Dear one, you have lied to your clan. You've put yourself first, your own desires before the needs of your clan. You mated with a rouge, and a traitor. Do you see what you've done?" Bluestar asked, voice firm.

"Yes." Goldenstar said, gaze dropping again.

Bluestar's tail lifted her chin.

"You've done the right thing, dear one. You were put in a tough situation, and you did your best to save your friend. Unfortunatly, you've broken the warrior code in more ways than one. But you did it for the good of everyone, even without realizing it." Bluestar said.

Spottedleaf stepped forward then.

"We needed Silverfrost to leave FireClan. We just didn't know how to do it. There must always be eight clans. Silverfrost will be the start of a new one, MoonClan. And-"  "So I bet you know what that means." Yellowfang cut in.

"Yes. FireClan will be destroyed." Goldenstar said as she met the old cat's gaze.

"Yes. A traitor lies within your clan." Bluestar hissed.

"Goldenstar, be prepared for the war to come." Spottedleaf whispered.

"For the light has come, but the darkness with overtake...." All three cats said in unison, then vanished.
