The next few moons in the clan were uneventful. Slowly, Goldenlight was accepted into the clan. She began to take on bigger and bigger warrior responsibilities.

Dappleflower became Goldenlight's best friend. They did everything together. From morning patrols to sharing tongues at sundown.

Dustfur became rather fond of Goldenlight. But every time she thought about him, she would see Spiderpaw. Oh, she missed him dearly. But she was happy here. It was where she belonged. And she was more sure of that everyday.

One day, Nightstar called a clan meeting. It was time for Emberfoot's only kit, Silverkit, to become an apprentice. Goldenlight was thrilled, for she had grown quite find of the small kit.

Nightstar looked at the young white kit standing before him. She squirmed under his firm, but caring gaze. He began.

"I, Nightstar, ask you my warrior ancestors to look upon this kit before me. She has just turned 6 moons old and is ready to begin her training to become a warrior." He turned to her then.

"Silverkit, do you promise to do your best, and train in the ways of the warrior code to honor your ancestors?" Nightstar asked the kit.

"I do!" She mewed.

"Then by the power given to me by Starclan you will be an apprentice. From this day until you receive your warrior name you will be known as Silverpaw. And your mentor will be Goldenlight." He finished.

Goldenlight's eyes grew wide. How could she be a mentor? She had hardly become a warrior herself! But she knew that if Nightstar had chosen her, it was what Starclan wanted.

She stepped forward and touched noses with Silverpaw while the rest of the clan chanted. She smiled at the apprentice.

"Congratulations. I'm sorry you got stick with me. I'm afraid I'll be learned as much as you will!" Goldenlight purred with laughter.

Silverpaw did the same.

"I know you'll be a great mentor!" She purred.

Goldenlight touched her tail to Silverpaw's shoulder, then walked to the fresh kill pile. Dappleflower soon met her there and they shared a large hawk. Dustfur joined them too.

"Congratulations!" He meowed, wrapping his tail through hers.

She patiently moved her tail to the other side of her body.

"Thank you." She replied taking a large bite of bird to show that the conversation had ended.

But as Dustfur walked away, she thought she saw the same hurt in his eyes that she always imagined Spiderpaw having when she left.
