~Several Moons Later~
Goldenstar and Silverfrost tended to the rouges every day. They grew stronger, and began to hunt for themselves, but remained hidden in the cave. Goldenstar eventually had to tell Silverfrost, who had become her best friend, about ThunderClan and Darkstripe's origins. Now, it became harder and harder to hide the rouge cats' existance. And all the while, the prophecy stayed in the back of Goldenstar's mind.
Goldenstar awoke with a start, breathing heavy as the result of another bad dream. They had been coming more and more now, the prophecy would soon come true. She lay back down, but had to shift onto her side. She had tried to deny the truth for too long. Now, she couldn't lie to herself any longer.
She stood and walked to the warrior's den. She tapped her deputy's shoulder and whispered.
"Meet me in my den. We need to talk."
She then left the small cave and returned to her den. Silverfrost padded sleepily behind, and sat in front of her leader.
"You needed me?" She yawned.
Goldenstar sighed. She had to tell her everything.
~~~~~~~~~~~
"What does it mean?" Silverfrost asked and she tried to make since of the prophecy.
"I think it means that the clan will be destroyed. Silverfrost. You're my bestfriend, my loyal deputy, and I can tell you anything. I need you to leave. You must take Darkstripe and Thorn and escape. I feel it in my gut. It's what StarClan wants." Goldenstar said, flinching as she said gut.
"But Goldenst-" "Also, there's one more thing. In the next few days, I'll be having Darkstripe's kits. I need you to take them with you. And no cat in the clan can know." Goldenstar said, looking away with shame.
"Is that why you haven't been acting like yourself lately? And why you haven't been to see Thorn and Darkstripe the past two moons?" Silverfrost asked with a voice full of astonishment.
"Yes. If Darkstripe would have seen me, he would have known. Please, SIlverfrost. Promise me." Goldenstar pleaded, eyes begging as she stared at her deputy.
"I promise. On one condition. You have to tell Darkstripe." Silverfrost said, then walked out before Goldenstar could reply.
~~~~~~~~~~~
The next night Goldenstar and Silverfrost walked to the small cave where the rouges were staying. Goldenstar had to stop and rest halfway there, for her load was becoming hard for her to bare. They reached the cave soon after, and the rouges padded out to meet them.
Thorn rubbed heads with Silverfrost, and they padded off into the woods to hunt. Darkstripe emerged next, his eyes lighting up when he saw Goldenstar sitting a tail-length fron the mouth of the cave. He padded over to her, and touched his nose to her shoulder.
"Darkstripe, we need to talk." Goldenstar said.
"I already know, Goldenstar. I knew you were having kits when you didn't come back for a while. I'm so sorry for putting you through that. I know you've had to lie to everyone about it." Darkstripe meowed into her shoulder.
"But, if you knew..." Goldenstar drifted off.
"I'm sorry I couldn't be with you." Darkstripe said as he sat next to her.
Suddenly, pain filled Goldenstar's stomach. She crouched low to the ground and yowled in pain.
"Silverfrost!"
"Goldenstar?! What's wrong!?" Darkstripe exclaimed as he crouched over her, his fur standing up.
"The k-kits!" She yowled in pain again. "Their coming!"
"Goldenstar!" Silverfrost yowled as she ran to her friend, Thorn close behind.
"G-go get me poppy seeds, a stick, and borage l-leaves!" Goldenstar said as she laid on her side.
"On it!" Thorn said as he darted into the woods.
Darkstripe crouched over her, licking her shoulder and whispering soothing words. Silverfrost stood and prepared to help Goldenstar deliver the kits.
"Breathe deeply, Goldenstar. And push. We can't wait until Thorn returns." Silverfrost said, knowing exactly what to do.
Goldenstar did as she was told. Soon, the first kit rested at Silverfrost's paws and Thorn returned with the things asked for. Goldenstar quickly ate the poppy seeds and borage leaves at Silverfrost's demand, and clenched her teeth on the stick as the pain dulled a bit.
After several moments, the last kit rested at Silverfrost's paws. She nudged them over to Goldenstar's stomach where they began to suckle. Darkstripe licked Goldenstar's shoulder as she looked at her three beautiful kits.
There were two toms and a she-cat.
"What will you name them?" Silverfrost asked.
Goldenstar looked at the first kit, a tom. He had dark gray fur with lighter gray spots. She licked him until his eyes opened. They were a piercing yellow.
"He will be called Stormkit."
The next was another tom. He was deep black with a white patch around his eye. She licked him until his bright amber eyes opened.
"He will be Patchkit."
Finally, the she-cat. She was pure white, and as Goldenstar licked the kit, her eyes opened to reveal their icy blue color.
"She will be Moonkit."
Goldenstar turned her gaze to Darkstripe who nodded his approval. The three kits suckled at Goldenstar's belly until they fell asleep. She sighed with love and saddness as she looked at Silverfrost.
"It's time. Silverfrost, you have to take them and go. Just please, take care of them." Goldenstar meowed.
She then licked each kit's head and finally stood.
"What do you mean? Go where?" Darkstripe asked, concerened.
"We're leaving. All of us. Goldenstar thinks that FireClan will be destroyed, and she wants us to be safe." Silverfrost told Darkstripe.
"What? No! I won't leave you here to be killed!" Darkstripe exclaimed as he burried hid muzzle into Goldenstar's fur.
"Come on, Darkstripe. We have to go. It'll be morning soon." Thorn said as the morning sunlight kissed Goldenstar's pelt.
Darkstripe reluctantly followed Silverfrost and Thorn who each carried a kit in their jaws. Darkstripe bent down and picked up the last one, Moonkit, and followed behind.
Goldenstar watched her best friend and her mate disappear. A soft breeze ruffled her fur as a tear left her eye.
"Goodbye. You will always remain in my heart." Goldenstar whispered to all of them as the cats she loved left her behind.
But that was what she had wanted.
