This chapter is dedicated to NaiveButterfly who created the most amazing cover! Thank you again!
Aside from the amazing cover, she also wrote a story I'm currently obsessing over: America (and how love destroyed us)

Chapter 8
"You should have called the cops." Kate said reaching over Allie to stack a book.
"Who would believe me?" Allie said smiling resignedly while passing Kate more books. "Please, Officer, my date pretended to be my one true love. He's an identity theif. Arrest him."
"Well, it sounds completely crazy if you put it that way." Kate crossed the marble floors, detouring around the dark-haired bundle of exasperation that was giving her the evil eye for talking in the library and dragged the cart of books to the general information section.
Allie met Kate years ago when her father decided that he didn't want her anymore and left her with her grandmother. Having just started growing her hair out, Allie was in awe of Kate who had blue eyeshadow on her lids and a collection of barbie dolls each in their own respective houses. Although Kate didn't know the first thing about horses and thought a thesaurus was a dinosaur, she was older and knew more about being a girl than Allie did. And Kate realizing that Allie idolized her, flourished in Allie's hero-worship and decided to be the Barbie to Allie's Kelly.
"Completely ridiculous," Allie said. "And they would have arrested me for assault instead and have me shipped off to the looney bin."
"But seriously, Allie, you should have punched this Ike guy's lights out not offer him friendship," she continues, vigorously shoving a fistful of books on the shelf. "If he'd done that to me I would have killed him."
"I don't doubt it." Allie nodded remembering Kate's list of bad dates. Behind all those perfect nails and cute outfits lies the fierceness of a bulldog.
"So what are you going to do now?"
"I don't know." Allie shrugs picking up one of the books that had fallen open and off the shelf due to Kate's shoving. She thought about Ike leaning close, how hard his chest had been against her hand, how amazing his mouth had been on hers, how everything felt right when their hands were entwined.
Allie tried to put a brave face on things, but to tell the truth, that night really got to her. To finally meet tha man she's been waiting for all these years and to find out that he was a fraud was upsetting to say the least. That's it. No more waiting, disappointment and dashed hopes. I'm done.
"I know you're wallowing and all." Kate climbed down the stepladder. "But look at it this way. We could finally set you up on dates without you having to wait for prince charming to come get you after 8 years."
Allie flipped through the dictionary she was holding until she came across a definition that was highlighted.
__________
des·ti·ny n. pl. des·ti·nies
[Middle English destine, from Old French destinee, from feminine past participle of destiner, to destine, from Latin dstinre, to determine; see st- in Indo-European roots.]
1. A predetermined course of events considered as something beyond human power or control
2. The power or agency thought to predetermine events
__________
That's it!
"I don't like the way that smile looks." Kate said eyeing her warily. "The last time you smiled like that. We got driven back home at the back of a police car."
"Don't you see." Aliie started shoving the dictionary under Kate's nose.
"See what?" Kate grabbed hold of the book before Allie could get it permanently stuck in one of her nostrils. "Oh someone should really report that. It's considered a vandalism of public property."
"No. Look," Allie excitedly pointed at the highlighted area. "Destiny - The power or agency thought to predetermine events. For the predetermined course of events to happen there has to be a power or agency to serve as a catalyst to the events."
"Speak again. This time in english."
"It means something should jumpstart the process." Allie explained with wild eyes. "I could be the jump start."
"A jump start to what exactly?" Kate said looking around to see if anyone other than the dark-haired lady took notice of Allie's ranting.
"Don't you see? What if I'm supposed to look for him? Not the other way around. What if I was supposed to be the catalyst all these years and I wasted them waiting around for him."
"Alaric again? I thought we were over him already?"
Allie plowed on not hearing her. "I have to find him..... How do I find him?"
There has to be something he said that could help me find him other than his first name. Think Allie think.
____
"My nana just died", he said bending down to pick up a rock.
____
"I've got to go to the Newspaper Archives." Allie ran towards the section with Kate following closely behind thinking about how they would both be fired from their jobs.
