Chapter 5
She ought to have known, of course, that this is what it would be like. Kissing Alaric. Her other half. Her soulmate. She never thought a mere kiss could make her feel as if her heart was going to explode out her chest and she could feel it all the way down to the tips of her toes - which had, she noticed, in the part of her brain that had not exploded, curled into themselves in her red shoes in the first electric touch of his mouth to hers.
He ought to have known what kissing her would be like. It seemed like he had known all along. Ever since, he saw her at the bar with her red shoes. It was like taking a shower and putting his mouth into an electric socket. This was why he had to tell her. It felt wrong to feel her in his arms thinking he was someone else. She'd be mad of course but isn't this kiss proof that this was something worth pursuing.
"I have a confession to make." Ike pulled away from her. "It's pretty bad."
"We found eachother didn't we? " Allie said looking into his eyes. "So you can tell me anything"
"Ok. So I'm not exactly. Only in the littlest sense. Alaric."
"What?"
"My name's not Alaric"
"Wha-wha What is it?!"
"Ike Hollis."
Allie pushed him away and stood up shrugging on her jacket.
"I'm sorry.I know you're very upset. And it's understandable" Ike called chasing after her. "Everything else is true. I swear to god. I just moved here, I'm single, I love dogs. I just lied about one tiny detail."
"You call you're identity one little detail?!"
"I can't believe you are going to let a few letters of the alphabet keep us apart. It is a detail.I know what I felt tonight and I know you felt it, too"
"How could you do this to me?!"
"Because I'm in love with you!" Ike yelled as he grasped her hands in his.
"What kind of an excuse is that?!" Allie suddenly tensed and, untangling her fingers from his, put her hands on his shoulders and hooked a leg behind his knee. Then, pushing on his shoulders and pulling with her leg- a manuever she had been taught by her brother- she managed to send him crashing into the lake.
A series of PG-18 expletives jumped out of Ike's mouth as soon as he hit the water.
Allie brushed her hands together and said, in a voice that was surprisingly steady after the bomb he dropped on her, "Don't come near me ever again." She then strode out of the park and out of his life.
At least for a week, which was what it took to find her again.
