Before I could make it to the bathroom, and get ready for dinner, Xander walked through the bedroom door. I could tell he was out of sorts, and I knew that things wouldn’t end well. I had to play this just right, and so far I haven’t been making the best decision. I couldn’t let Xander know how Klaus had pushed himself on me, which caused my hand to be cut. Not that I wanted to protect Klaus, I just didn’t want any more drama, until I could figure out what he meant by Xander not telling me the whole story, and the real reason why he was here: for me.
“Do you mind telling me what that was all about?” He asked in a accusing tone.
“What was what about?”
“You and Klaus?”
I knew it was best not to sound like I as on the defense. If I did, Xander would read something more into it. “Klaus and I were just talking. You told me not to provoke him, so when he asked to talk, I figured the best thing was to just talk to him, instead of fighting him.”
“Ava love, you have to see it from my side. At lunch you and Klaus were practically sitting on top of each other, then when I woke up you were gone…. And when I found you, you were…”
I interrupted him before he could finish his sentence. “Practically sitting on top of each other. Hell, Xander. I sat as far away as I could when I went into the dining room. Klaus came over, and sat down next to me. Do you honestly think I went out looking for Klaus? Excuse me; I thought that I was free to roam the house as I wished. I didn’t know I need to ask permission to leave the room.”
“Look at it from my side. I wake up, your gone. When I go looking for you, you’re on the couch all cozy with Klaus.” His tone accusing.
“Oh my god, this is pathetic. Cozy on the couch with Klaus.” I felt a bit hysterical, and was trying to work hard to keep it under control.
“Well, that is what it looked like to me.”
“Guess what looks can be deceiving. Of all people you should know that.” I felt myself getting closer to the edge. I didn’t want to go off on Xander, like normal. I had enough this shit already for one day.
“Xander, I can understand your point of view, but you have to realize how ridiculous this all sounds. If you must know, I went to the kitchen looking for an aspirin. I woke up with a major headache. I know, it’s my own fault for drinking so much during lunch, but that’s beside the point.”
Xander was giving me that knowing look and shaking his head in agreement. Part of me wanted to call him an asshole, just for agreeing with me.
“Anyway, while I was down in the kitchen, I met Rose. We got to talking, and she allowed me to help her around the kitchen. When I was on my way back to the room, to see if you were awake yet, I ran into Klaus. We started talking. You know it’s not my fault he’s here, and I kept remembering how you told me not to provoke him, so we had a little chat.”
“Huh?” Xander looked like he didn’t believe me.
“Xander, how am I supposed to avoid him? What are you going to do, lock me in this room again?”
“Well then don’t tempt me.”
“Tempt you. This is crap and you know it!” I was starting to see red, and was trying not to freak out. I was tired of everything ending in a fight.
“I don’t like you helping Rose. Is that how you got cut?”
“All I did was sit there and peeled potatoes as we talked. Same thing I would do at home. You know before I met you a peeled thousands of potatoes. Actually, I am very good with a knife.”
