I don’t know how long I had been out cold, but when I came too, I was being lifted out of the backseat. I know I should have struggled and kicked. I should have done whatever I could have to break free. Instead I looked over his shoulder, saw that Grace was following us. So I turned my face into his chest, and let him carry me. I had no clue where I was, and part of me no longer cared.

He cradled me in his arms, as he carried me over the thresh hold of what I assumed was his house. I’m sure this amused him, by the smile he had on his face, but at this point I didn’t care. I hated myself for not caring.  I needed to snap out of this fast, but I still didn’t have the strength.

As we walked inside, I heard him say, “Hey, kid. Follow me upstairs. I’ll go lay your mom down, and show you to your new room. I think you’ll really like it. Has the best view in the place.”

This snapped me out of myself loathing.  “WHAT!” as a tried to jump out of his arms. He held me close to his body, so I stopped struggling, just for the sake of it. I knew it was important to save my energy.

Again I repeated “What? You can put me down now. I’m fine. By the way, there is no need to put us in different rooms. Gracie and I can share a room.” I spit out quickly.

He chuckled. “Oh, my love. You’re still too weak to walk. Let me put you down in our room, and I’ll show Grace to hers. She’ll be fine. I promise.”

He has got to be delusional. Our room. No way in hell, I’m sharing a room with him. He’s a freaking crazy vampire. He’ll have to chain me to the fucking bed, before I’ll stay in there with him, for Christ sakes.

“Oh, no, that’s ok. Grace and I would be happy share a room. Right honey?” I looked at Grace pleading for her to chime in. She nodded her head, saying “Yes.”

“Love there is no reason to fight it, the sleeping arrangement have already been made”. He stated.

“For Christ stake, would you stop calling me LOVE? I am not your LOVE. I have a god given name, it’s Ava. I don’t need your freaking pet name.” I spat out.

He looked down at me, and stated with a smirk, “You’ll learn to love it, love. But in the meantime, Ava it is.”

Feeling like I just won my first battle in this war, I tried to change his mind on the sleeping arrangements. “Could you please just let Grace and I stay together for few days. Then we can rethink this, after we’ve gotten to know each other a little better?”  I smiled, hoping that I wasn’t such a mess, that just a little personal charm could slip through. I knew it was a good argument. There must be some spark of reason in there, somewhere.

He clicked his tongue, and acted like he was thinking about it. I felt a ray of hope.

“No…. I don’t think that will work. I can’t trust you two together. How do you know you won’t try to run again? For your own safety, it is best that Grace sleeps in her own room, and you stay where I can keep an eye on you.” he said.

“But, please.” I pleaded.

He looked at me again with that sexy smirk. The type of smirk that makes me almost forget he’s a monster. Finally he says. “How about this. You can come with Grace, and I and get her settled into her room. You’ll see that she is being treated well, and then we can go into our room. You need to get cleaned up and rest.”

I knew there was no use to fight it. I wasn’t going to win. My body couldn’t take another attack if I failed.

“Fine, that will work. As long as you promise me that she will be safe.”

He nodded, and we continued up the stairs into a large room. The room had a large picture window that looked out into the forest. The view was amazing. The room looked like something for royalty, a room dreams were made of. In the center was a large four poster bed, draped in silver and blue with more pillows on it that I had ever seen before. After we walked inside, he put me down on a chair next to a fire place, and walked Grace across the room to a double door. The door opened up into the largest bathroom I had ever seen. Once they came back into the bedroom, he opened a door that led to a walk in closet the size of my bedroom at home. I gasped a little, because it was full of clothes. Nice expensive clothes from what I could tell.

After showing Grace around the room, he pointed to a tray I had not noticed sitting next to me on a table.

“Hey Grace, why don’t clean up and take a shower. Cook left some food for you, and if you’re bored there is a TV right here.” He pushed a button, and a huge flat screen appeared out f nowhere, and tossed her the remote.

Grace grinned, and nodded.

“Okay, then. You’re all set. If you need us, just pick up the phone and it will ring directly into our room”. He looked at me a smirked again.

“Yes baby, if you need anything please, please call. Don’t worry about it. Promise me, if you need me call.”

I put my arms out, for Grace to come to me. She walked over and put her arms around me and we hugged, holding onto each other for as long as we could. Both of us had tears in our eyes. I knew she didn’t want to be in this room alone, no matter how grand it was. I hated to leave her, just as much as she didn’t want me too.

I whispered, “Be safe.”

“I will Mom. Don’t worry. You’re the one that needs to be safe. I’m worried more about you than me.” She smiled.

I winked at her, and hugged her again. I heard him clear his throat, and walk over to us. “Grace get some rest, you’ll see your mom soon. I promise.”

I started to get up from the chair and my legs gave way underneath me. Before I could fall, he caught me and gathered me up in his arms once more. Giving in, I wrapped my arms around his neck and let him carry me out of Grace’s room. As we left he shut the door and locked it. I wanted to protest, but I figured if she was locked inside, maybe she would stay safe.
