Lauren walked around campus as she familiarized herself with her surroundings. She took notes along the way. The campus seemed different. It wasn't anything big or drastic but she could tell that some things had changed. It felt strange. The campus was familiar yet unfamiliar at the same time.
Earlier that day, Lauren had received an update from Headquarters that her registered classes were the same as before. Apparently, one Camila Cabello was also registered in those classes. Since she was the only potential suspect, it didn't seem much like a coincidence that they had the same classes.
Her thoughts drifted to the brown eyed brunette. Lauren felt drawn to her and she was increasingly becoming attached to her. From what the girl had observed, the feeling was mutual. Because of that, the mission had grown complicated.
The mission comes first.
Lauren had to constantly remind herself that. She had been in compromising situations before. She had to be pulled out of the mission before she fell in too deep. She wasn't about to let that happen again.
"The mission comes first," Lauren muttered.
"Ooh what mission?"
Lauren jumped as she placed her hand over her rapidly beating heart and spun around. She saw Camila with an endearing smile on her face.
"Shit, Camila, you scared the crap out of me," Lauren said as she took a few deep breaths.
"Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to," Camila said as her smile turned into a pout. Lauren felt that rising feeling in her chest again as she looked at the brunette. The raven haired girl composed herself before clearing her throat.
"It's fine," she said with a smile.
"So, what mission were you talking about?" Camila asked.
"Well, if you must know, the mission is to finish the first year of college since I didn't do that the last time," Lauren said effortlessly.
"What about the next year? Or the next? There's 4 years, y'know," Camila pointed out.
"Baby steps," Lauren said before letting out a light chuckle.
"The mission comes first," she said again, "I can't afford any distraction. That includes you."
Camila raised her eyebrows, "I'm a distraction?"
Lauren hummed in response as she nodded. Camila nodded as she licked her lips. She took a step closer and folded her arms across her chest and raised an eyebrow at the green eyed girl.
"How so?"
"Have you seen yourself?" Lauren asked. Camila's face dropped as she frowned, taking a small step back before looking down at herself.
"You are quite honestly the most beautiful girl I have ever seen. I can't seem to get you out of my mind," Lauren said to her.
She didn't know what came over her to say all those things. Under normal circumstances, she would have never said them, to avoid complicating the situation. With Camila, it was as if all her restraints had gone out the window. But once she said her thoughts out loud, she couldn't stop.
"Really?" Camila asked as her face lit up, which followed by a shy smile.
"Really," Lauren said with a nod.
"And what makes me different from the others? I'm a brown eyed brunette. Finding me will be like finding a needle in a hay stack."
Lauren blinked. That was a phrase she has said many times since she was briefed of the mission. It could simply be a coincidence but either way, the possibility of Camila being Kaycee has gone up.
