I blinked my eyes open slowly, the painful sun rays shining over Max's shoulders and blinding me momentarily. Max still had his arms wrapped around me, his chest rising and falling in small snores, his eyes closed and his mouth open ajar. I smiled weakly and snuggled into his neck, kissing it gently.
He shifted slightly, turning onto his back enough so I could lay with my arms draped over his chest, my hand finding his ear opposite. The cool, soft skin was a kiss to my warm fingers as I gripped his ear lobe in between my thumb and forefinger, playing with it for a few seconds before chuckling to myself.
A small yawn escaped me and I rested my head on Max's shoulder, kissing Max's blond-in-the-sun beard and closing my eyes, sleep slowly overcoming me. As I let the last part of energy escape me, a startling shriek echoed, waking me and Max up, Max sitting up on his elbows and covering me as I lay, hiding behind Max in fear.
"Max?!" A shrill voice yelled in shock. Max's eyes shot around the room, from me to the intruder, a shadow of embarrassment spilling over his face.
"Tim!" Max breathed hard, placing his hand on his heart and laughing slightly. "You scared us!" Max said more sternly, anger flushing over him.
"So- sorry!" The man named Tim pleaded, backing out of the room and closing the door in a hurry. Max began to climb out of bed, hanging his legs over the edge and sitting up straight. He sighed and yawned loudly.
"Max?" I said, my voice barely a whisper as I reached out and touched his shoulder lightly, his warm back shivering as my hand touched his bare skin.
"R/N..." Max sighed, grabbing my hand in his and laying down on me, his head resting on my ribcage. He held my hand and kissed it, hugging it as he smiled with closed eyes. "So that's Tim..." Max finally breathed. I looked from Max's face towards the door, relief rushing over me. Max had told me Tim was visiting his parents for the last couple weeks, I'd heard him mentioned around the office but I never really paid much attention to it. What I didn't know what he lived with Max and Ross.
"Why was he... in your room- your apartment?" I asked softly, my hand finding Max's orange curls and stroking them back lightly, Max's eyes opening and staring at the ceiling.
"He lives here- the room at the end of the hallway." Max explained, his eyes turning on me and a smile appearing over his face and he stroked my cheek. "No idea why he was in my room though..." Max realised, sitting back up on his elbows while stroking his beard, his face scrunching up as he thought.
"Maybe we should go ask him." I stated.
"Maybe I should go tell him- about us I mean." Max said quietly, rubbing his hands through his hair as he found his feet.
"Doesn't know you're..." I trailed off, realising I don't know myself what Max is. Gay, Bi, I don't know.
"That I'm Bi? Only him and Ross did know." Max said, looking through his cupboard and throwing me a shirt. "That should fit." He smiled, turning back to the cupboard and finding himself a shirt. I pulled the duvet back and realised that I was named, my eyes finding Max and seeing he too, is still naked. A giggled and Max turned to me in confusion.
"What?" He insisted, a small smile appearing."We're still...." I gestured towards our naked selves and Max huffed out a single laugh and pulled on a shirt.
"What? You embarrassed?" Max taunted, searching through his drawers and finding us both some boxers.
"No, just happy." I sighed happily, pulling the boxers up and standing, stretching my tired muscles. "I should probably head home." I drifted off, searching the floor for my jeans and shirt to take home and wash. Max sighed and turned to me, walking towards me with a huge smile on his face.
"Why not stay for breakfast?" Max asked, hugging me tightly, pulling my head onto his shoulder and rustling my hair.
"Are you sure? Won't it be... a bit awkward?" I asked, breaking the hug and giving Max a weak, uneasy smile. Max giggled lightly and shook his head.
"Why would it be?" Max said sarcastically, rolling his eyes and walking towards the door. "Leave your stuff there you can get it afterwards." He added.
We sat on the couch in the living room, Ross, me, Max and Tim, each of us holding a bowl of cereal and watching Family Guy. Ross put it on. Ross was furiously eating his cereal, not paying much attention to us and casually leaning his elbow on the side of the couch while Max sat between me and Tim, looking at his cereal and spinning the spoon around in the milk, sighing every now and then.
I nudged him and he looked up at me, startled. I smiled brightly and Max did the same. Tim saw this and rolled his eyes in what seemed to be irritation.
"So... R/N... how long have you and Max been..." he drifted off and nodded his head at Max, Max looking at him with a confused, somewhat scared look on his face.
"What Tim?" Max said, scratching his beard awkwardly. "Since he and Max have been, what?" Max said, sarcastically straining his ear towards Tim. Tim fell silent and looked at his bowl, placing it on the table and rolling his eyes as he began to watch tv.
"Since Max has been fucking you." Tim finished in a short, aggressive breath. Max's face flared up and Ross awkwardly eyed me and Max. Max nearly threw his cereal on the table as he jumped up and turned to Tim. Tim was not paying him any attention and I looked at Ross for help.
"Say that again Tim!" Max yelled, clenching his fists tightly, the tips of his fingers growing yellow as he squeezed harder and harder. I slowly placed my bowl down and stood up, putting myself in front of Max.
"Max, it's okay." I tried to calm him down, Max seemed not to see me and pushed me aside forcefully, making me trip over Ross and fall to the ground. Tim stood up and began walking away, laughing.
"You hurt your homo friend." Tim commented. Max appeared to barely hear him as he turned to me, running to my aid. Ross was kneeling and helping me up when Max pushed Ross aside and grabbed my arm and pulled me to my feet.
"R/N- I'm-"
"No! Don't..." I said angrily, rubbing my shirt and turning to his bedroom, heading down the hall. Max sighed and began following me but Ross grabbed him.
"Max, don't... let him cool down..." Ross said quietly.
"But he doesn't understand- Tim-" Max protested.
"No he doesn't. And it's your job to help him, but not right now." I heard Ross finish as I came back with a bundle of my clothes. I eyed Ross, who mouthed a "goodbye" and then looked at Max who was staring at the floor, his grass-like eyes looking lost. I finally opened the door and took a step out, turning back to find Tim staring at me, an angry smirk spreading across his face as he sarcastically waved.
Anger flushed over me and I slammed the door, walking towards my apartment.
"Call me a fucking homo. Little prick." I uttered as I pushed my door closed and walked towards the washing machine. I threw my clothes in and switched it on, walking towards the bathroom to shower. As I got undressed I noticed I'm still wearing Max's clothes. I suddenly felt sad. I know Max didn't mean to hurt me, but he did. Well, it didn't hurt me just surprised me. I sighed and dropped his clothes in a pile and stepped into the shower. Upon stepping out about 20 minutes later, I picked up Max's clothes and found myself hugging them, smelling his warm scent in them. I smiled and walked towards my bedroom to get dressed, happiness finding me once more.
