Chase

I wake up to the sound of my alarm clock. Turning it off quickly I get ready for school in some jeans running shoes and a gray shirt from my closet. No nice clothing.

The day our mate's a cat is the day you'll get dressed up for school. My wolf snickers at me. I roll my eyes ignoring that snark comment.

Walking out of my room I grab my backpack and head out. Walking down stairs I say bye to my mother and pass the kitchen quickly before she can notice.

"Chase? Get back here." Not quick enough.

"Yes..?" I back up into the kitchen careful not to make direct eye contact.

"Your awake, and early. I didn't even wake you up this time." She stares me down.

"I could go back up if you want..." I turn to go back to my room.

"NO! Go on ahead to school. Don't let me distract you. I'll finish the preparations for you party tomorrow." My mother practically pushes me out the front door. She absolutely loves planing anything and everything.

I continue out the door and get into my car and start it up. Leaving this early makes me seem like I'll be the first at school, but it really just gives me the chance to go to the old women's stump without being caught.

As I make it down the long and narrow road shrouded by plants and trees I get an eerie feeling. I feel like I'm being watched. Even so I ignore the feeling and continue on, because I know it's just my surroundings. Besides, I need to get whatever it is she's making so I can find my mate much sooner then later.

I pull up to the witches stump and make my way out of my car. I quickly walk up to the door and wrench the door open. I step in only to regret breathing in. The place gave off a horrid smell that would make a dump smell nice compared to here. I plug my nose and walk in the rest of the way. Esmeralda just looks at me with and annoyed expression as her rocking chair sways back, and forth. She slowly keeps swaying in her chair as she looks me up and down. She still looks the same as I remember. Curly brown hair, freshly pedicure nails and purely white teeth. She almost looks human, other than the empty sockets where her eyes should be.

She was captured by my great grandfather after he defended the pack from a rouge attack lead by his cousin. His cousin thought he was doing the right thing, but Esmeralda was tricking him and manipulating him by using the future to her advantage. When he caught her he took her eyes to relinquish her powers to see the future. However she can still what's happening in the present nonetheless. She's not only a witch but a seer. My great grandfather didn't know how it came to be because witches and seers have an unspoken grudge against each other, but here's Esmeralda for living proof.

"Ah... Chase my favorite client. What can I do for you" The old hag smiles up at me with sarcasm mingling throughout her voice.

"You know what. I brought what you need now get to work." I throw the bag of supplies she requested down on the table in-front of her.

"Oh, but why not for a price, one that I will accept gracefully. I'll even give you assistance in your future." She looked almost genuine until I saw the wicked smile spread to her face, promising mischief and evil.

"You know I can't do that Esmeralda. I gave you a telephone, and even that's stretching the use of the word prisoner. So work your tricks." The witch glares at me for a slit second before she stands up and starts emptying the contents of the bag.

"I've changed you know..." She grumbles as she goes to her cauldron and starts dragging it to the table. I know she's weak without her powers so I pick up her cauldron and carry it over to the table for her.

"You've gotten old and lonely. Not much change other than that." I set her cauldron down and she grumbles a thanks and continues back to work. To think what would happen if I set her loose. Before Esmeralda was caught the humans were constantly disappearing in huge numbers. She still claims it wasn't her, and yet after we caught her the killings stopped. We had no Idea she was linked to it until we learned it stopped, so keeping her contained became all the more important.

"Here, take this potion at your party and you'll be able to tell it's her even if she's hiding her sent." She hands me a small vile filled with a dark purple liquid.

"Then why did you have me bring a collar?" I look at her as she picks it up and fiddles with it.

"You'll see." The witch grabs a bottle from her shelf and pours it over the collar before she puts it back.

"What do you mean?" She points at the cauldron, and I roll my eyes picking it up, to move it back to its original spot.

"I mean, it's for your sisters new pet. Put it on the thing." She holds it out an I hesitantly take it.

"Will it hurt the cat?" I shove the collar into my backpack.

"No. It shouldn't." She turns around and sits back in her rocking chair.

"Thank you Esmeralda." I toss her a bag of Swedish fish, and a small smile tugs at her lips.

"Not like I had a choice." She shrugs turning her head to face an open window. "I'll see you again soon Chase." I walk out of the witch's rotten stump and get back into my car.
