"Why did you wake up Sasha?" This is the first question asked as my sister and I enter the movie room.
"She brought me because she knows something is off, and I'm the only person who can answer the questions but not here, we can't risk being eves dropped. Follow me" How did she know I felt something was off?
Sending me a confused glance Chase got up and joined me as I followed Sasha. We exited the house through the back door and walked over to the edge of the pool where Sasha had plopped down at one end with her feet hanging into the clear water. "Why the pool of all places?"
"No corners, bushes, or close spots for anyone to lurch in and overhear us so long as we don't make a ruckus." Pulling my lips together I nod my head in understanding and look up towards Chase. He looks concerned as if he thinks my sister is crazy.
"She wasn't wrong earlier. Things here feel off, and I'm not sure what to make of it anymore. Sit with me." Holding my hand up for him he chuckles and takes it as he sits next to me. When I first realized he was my mate I wanted nothing to do with him, but I can't seem to shut him out. He may come off as an ass, but he's been really sweet to me if you ignore when he didn't know I wasn't just a cat.
"Let me explain while I still can." Sasha looks down at the water where her feet are residing and stares almost through it. "To the rest of the pride and everyone outside of this family, we're a happy family. Only a few people know that our parents are infertile and have adopted all of us."
"You're what?" Glancing back towards chase I shush him.
"Let her finish." I chide. "Hold your questions and concerns til the end, we don't know how long we have." Pulling his lips together he mimics a zipper and looks like a scolded kid before I turn back to Sash egging her to continue. While my shock is greater than Chases, I need answers and if staying quiet to let her finish what she has to say means getting more answers I'll wait for my questions.
"Well Matt was the first to be adopted, and then us. He knew we were all adopted, and when I found out a few years ago I was angry with him for not telling me. It killed me to know that we were all adopted and he wasn't doing anything to learn more about his real birth parents. After a few weeks, he had told me that he didn't need to search it out because he had done it already and learned that his birth parents had died in a car crash." Glancing around as if she thought she heard something, she continues the story in a lower voice.
"His parents were close cousins of our father. He told me how he had found the papers of his adoption, and after I pressured him enough I was able to get him to sneak me into the head office so I could find out more about our birth parents. When we got there and found the papers they were with Matt's papers only there was something different between them. Ours were fake." If they were fake? Then where did we come from? I furrow my brows in confusion, wanting to ask more questions, but knowing I need to wait. She'll explain.
"It was then that we were caught by mom in the office as she was looking for dad. Her face at first was pure horror for a moment. I didn't know what the look was for, and some part of me wishes I didn't notice that the papers were different. If I hadn't figured out what I did then I could be living in bliss still." Sasha Reaches over and takes my hand squeezing tightly. "They honestly thought you were dead, and I let them think you were. I knew you were still alive, but I dared not say a word. Finding you was just by chance. When we found you it was because I was on the run. They were hunting me." Taking a shaky breath she looks my in the eye, somthing she hasn't done since she started talking. "I'm so sorry Ray, I shouldn't have dragged you back to this. If I knew you were there, if I knew you were there I would've never tried to use that event for my own selfishness. I would've done something else."
"Why were you there?" Chase speaks in a quarding voice. I almost forgot he was behind me.
"That's off topic." I glare back at him. "Sasha, why were they hunting you? They raised us."
"No, they didn't. We were never adopted." Anger seeps into Sasha's voice. "They kidnapped us, when we were only four years old, stole us from our home. When I found out I was devestated, but I wanted to know where we came from, who we are. I had been searching for months behind their backs trying to collect information. When they found out it was like a switch flipped in them. They've been pretending to be our parents this whole time, and they're crazy!" Covering her mouth she looks around caustiously after letting her voice rise. "They brain washed us when we were small and they do it to me again, I hadn't told Matt or anyone about what I discovered. They had a witch use magic and I had completely forgotten until I came across one of the books in your room. I had put everything I found and collected in one of them before they found out, and thank the goddess I did." Wiping tears out of her eyes she looks away from me again. "When I remebered everything I was furious, so furious I shifted 3 weeks before our birthday, but when you didn't act surpised I thought you maybe knew the truth already, but when you chose to come back here I wasn't sure. I could tell that you at least suspected something was off." Sasha wraps her arms around herself and ceases talking, as if she said all she had to say.
"Why did you choose to tell me then?" I place a hand on her sholder.
"Because I would want to know, and I need to tell someone this time around. They know I remember and I know what theyre going to do to me. They already did it the first time and I won't be as lucky this time. I begging you to please take me with you from this place before it's too late." Fear drips from her voice.
"What did they do to you?" Biting her lip she lifts up her shirt to show her abdomen. I let at a gasp and at the same time I hear a deep growl from behind me. Upon her abdomen lay lines of scars. Seeing the scars I feel angry for her, she didn't need to say anymore. They had tortured her, and if it was able to leave scares then they must've beaten her almost to death. "They took me to the witch like this and that's the last thing that happened before I woke up in the hospital. They made me and everyone else think I was hit by a car." I don't truely want to believe everything she's telling me, but when I look into her eyes I can tell it's the truth.
"We'll leve tonight then." I smile reassuringly. "If that's okay with you Chase?" Looking back at Chase, his face holds a murderous expression until he looks down at me and smiles softly.
"Absolutley." His smile still rests on his face as he reaches over an sets his hand on mine.
"Not tonight." I look back at Sasha in confusion. If they're as horrible as they say then why wouldn't she be the first out the door? "There is no way we could get past the borders before they figure out and have us attacked and dragged back here. We have to come up with a plausable story fro why we need to depart sooner than expacted. They wont let you leave if they figure out you know the truth." Nodding I then let out a sigh of frustration.
"Alright then. We leave tomorrow."
