Raylina
Sitting in a car with my father, brother, and sister is a lot more awkward than I imagined it would be. I was picturing it as the stereotypical road trip where families bond and work through their differences. This was anything but. The best part of the trip was always the pit stops.
"We're here!" The high pitched squeak my sister lets out startles me. You would think Emily and Sasha were siblings with the vocal range they share.
"You should see Mom." Matt pulls open the door of the small car. Showing a smile I slide out and look to the house. It's not the house I remember at all.
"Did we move?" Looking back to my brother his face swaps into one of confusion.
"No, it's the same house as always." Reaching into the car he helps Sasha out. "It probably just looks smaller because of your size."
"No, I remember. This house is entirely different. It was bl-" Sasha squeezes my hand tight. Looking at her she has a smile on her face but the look in her eyes tells me to shut up. "Never-mind. I must be remembering it wrong."
Matt lets out a small chuckle and continues up the steps of the house. Once we enter the house my stomach sinks lower than it did last night. This isn't my old house at all. There's not a picture on the wall, and the air feels thin. Just as I'm about to turn around and leave once more but before I can, a woman with blonde curly hair enters the room. Her face has slight wrinkles at the corners of her mouth. She either smiles or frowns too much. She looks approachable, but something tells me she's worse than my father.
"Raylinally? It's that you?" My father pushes the back of me forward towards her. It sends chills down my spine, but I smile and nod anyway. "What do you remember?" The woman grabs both my hands and leans in to look at me. Instinctively I want to cringe away, and yet the idea of doing so sends another tendril fear through me.
"I remember the attack. I remember your scream. I only remember running after that." Looking into the eyes of the women, I mold my face into the sweetest thing I can. "I've missed you mom"

After the short and overly awkward reunion, my mother and I go to the living room where everyone resides, including Chase whom followed me from a distance.
Time passes rather quickly as we all talk and catch up on what I've missed, I try to ignore the uneasy feeling I have, but it never fades, it only settles in the pit of my stomach. As they try to get me up to date I learn that my brother has found his mate, Sasha still has yet to find hers, and my parents -despite how I'm feel towards them- seem the same.
Yawning I lean back. Listening to the bumbling chit chat of everyone brings back a small feeling of unease everytime I let myself believe this is normal. Glancing up I see Chase above me and jump. I thought i was leaning against a pillow rather than him. Oops.
"You alright?"
"Yeah, I'm fine" I shake my head and sit up some. "Just tired." Chase looks at me and snickers I which I return with a glare.
"I think we should call it a night. I mean look at Ray. She's so tired her eyes are practically glistening." Sash jokes, and yet this pulls me awake.
"What?!?" Sitting up abruptly, the news sends alarm bells ringing throughout my head.
"Alright, everyone to bed. We can't stay out here all night." My mother stands up looking perfectly normal as if she hasnt been sick in the way my father described previously. No one should be able to recover as fast as she seems to have.
"Goodnight then." Yawning I get up, and talk with Chase as he walks me to my room. Thankfully, I get my room to myself.
Before hopping into bed, I walk to the mirror. Sash was right my eyes were glistening. They look almost as if they were glow in the dark or something. Shaking my head I push off all the possible thoughts of what my eyes could mean and hop into my bed. Only time will tell, so there's no use fretting over it.
***
Waking up to the sound of a light tapping at my door I roll over and up out of my bed. "One moment please." Stretching my back I quickly change into my clothes for the day. I throw on a pair of ripped Jeans and a semi-baggy white shirt that my sister lent me. Just as I'm fully dressed and about to open the door I catch sight of myself in the mirror. More importantly my head.
I have no recollection of what I dreamed of, nor any idea how in the world my head ended up like this. My hair and what used to be long wavy brown was now more strait and full of a few golden looking streaks that make the change in color of my eyes more noticeable. My eyes had specks of gold mingling amongst the blue. They were gorgeous but most certainly unexplainable.
Shaking that issue off I focus on the real world, and ignore what is probably just my nerves making things look different. Opening the door I smile seeing Chase there waiting for me. "Morning." Opening my door further as an invite to come, in he accepts the offer.
"How did you sleep?" Contemplating on whether I should ask if I'm crazy or my hair and eye color really did change I pick up my shoes and sit down as I start putting them on.
"I slept great." Pulling on the shoes I begin to tie the laces. It takes me more time than it would anyone else, but that's only because I just learned how the other day. "By the way, what time is it?" Finishing off the other shoe I stand up and join Chase whom is now lounging about on the bed.
"A little after 5 in the morning"
"What? Its so early. Why in the world am I up?" I could've slept in, and been lazy. Why did I feel the need to wake up on my own? "Why are you up?" I point my finger accusingly at him.
"Well I just couldnt sleep, what excuse do you have?" Pushing my finger of accusation aside he laughs softly. From there we just start talking.
