Raylina

I step into the party through the doors from the kitchen and glance around at everything. Anna told me the theme was a modern day version of a medieval ball. The idea sounded as if it would be a really awkward combo, however, the turnout is spectacular.

"Turned out good huh?" I jump at the sound of a voice behind me only to see the Alpha. Still feeling a tinge of pain from his earlier accusation I turn my back to him focusing on the party decorations.

"It's not bad." My eyes land on someone greeting guests at the door lingering there as the Alpha continues talking.

"Raylina. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have reacted the way I did, and I know you would never hurt Ana. It's just- I just..." I turn around abruptly breaking my gaze off of whatever I was looking t and snap at Josh.

"I don't care about that, and if you think I'd be mad at you for a mistake then you're an idiot." I look him straight in the eye masking the hurt I felt earlier. He avoided me, but only because of his damaged pride. It's best to lead him to believe I'm fine.

"Happy belated birthday?" The Alpha avoids making eye contact with me looking more uncomfortable than I was when I first arrived in this place causing me to crack up with laughter.

Once I stop laughing enough to breathe I straighten up felling my ribs sore from all my laughter. "My birthday isn't for about another 3 weeks." I glance back over to the door to see the person I was watching greet people was no longer t the door.

"I've never heard of any shift changing before their birthday, ever." Josh reaches up scratching his head in confusion as I glance back over at the door again, no one there.

"I have, but we can discuss that a later. I want to try interacting with some people." I look at him and glance past the punch bowl hoping he'll take my excuse and let me leave.

"Alright then, but be careful don't want my son to figure out you're dodging him." Josh leans over ruffling my hair before I can slap his hand away.

"I'll be careful." I turn away and weave my way through the crowd of people dance as if they don't have a care in the world. I can't help myself but imagine what my life would've been like if my pride wasn't destroyed. As the beat of the music slows down on the music playing over the stereos I slip outside making sure I wasn't followed.

Once outside I take a deep breath letting the ice cold tinge of the wind fill my lungs. The perfect chance to run, although looking back at the door leading straight towards a room full of werewolves, of people, I'm not so sure running is the best idea.

A twig snapping from within the trees to my left has my head flaying towards the sound. I jump into a position I feel would be best for fighting as I take in my surroundings. "Who's there?" I spot a pair of green human-like eyes piercing through the darkness looking straight at me. I almost mistake the predator for another person or guest at the party until I squint making out the shape of a cat, a really big cat.

Taking another deep breath to slow the quickened pace of my pulse, I slowly take a few steps back until my back is up against the door, the predator taking it's sweet time as it stalks closer to me. I try to focus, however, my mind keeps scrambling for ways to escape my soon to be attacker before it can get me, and warn the Alpha before it can harm anyone else. Gripping onto the handle I twist it sluggishly being careful not to alert the assailant of my escape as it slinks its way towards me. Once the final click of the door opening sounds I'm yanking the door open with what I now see is a Cheetah bounding towards me. turning around on the other side of the door I wrench it closed just in time to head a heavy thunk against the now closed door.

Locking the door I pull a small chair residing by the door and place it right in front. I know it won't solve anything, but it's better than nothing. With the chair in place, I slide my way back through the people asking if they've seen the Alpha, or know where he is. With no luck, I stand on the tips of my toes in the middle of the dance floor browsing over the heads of all the party guests looking for the Alpha. It isn't until I look over the buffet table that I spot him.

With a roll of my eyes, I hurriedly make my way off the dance floor in the direction of the Alpha.  The moment my feet touch the ordinary tiles of the floor I move faster to him. Just as I'm almost through the crowd I'm pushing myself up off the floor. Standing up I dust off my dress only to look away from the floor and into a pair of dark mocha brown eyes. Everything I'm thinking about starts to slip away as I look into them it's almost as if I wasn't in a hurry at all. Shaking my head I recall what I'm doing. I'm trying to warn the Alpha, not get lost the eyes of... I look back to the owner of the eyes and notice it's none other than the Alpha's son.

Resisting the urge to roll my eyes I dart past wolf-boy and dash my initial target. "Josh!"

The Alpha looks over to me and smiles "Raylina? Did my son catch you?" he chuckles as the Luna walks up beside him.

"No,  well yes, but that not the point." I slow down to a stop in front of him and Anna.

"The point of what?" The Luna chirps in.

"She's hiding from Chase" Josh takes a sip of his drink as he leans against the wall.

"Now why is she doing that I thougt-" This time I can help but to roll my eye as I intervein in the middle of her sentence.

"I thought I should inform you that I was just nearly attacked outside!"

"What are you talking about sweety? It's a party no one would cause a fuss here.

"Technically not someone, but something... There was a Cheetah, and I think it was a shifter.

"If what you say is true, then I need you two to go straight to the basement, and more people will follow. Now go" Josh immediately walks off, as the Luna starts ushering me toward the back room where they had all the older decorations held up in. "Hello, I hope you're all having a great evening." I look over to see Josh on the stage as everyone turns to pay attention to him. "However we need to put a pause in this celebration to set up defense until we identify the threat level of an unidentified... Subject. So if you will all head my orders we can solve the issue in no time at all, and be back to celebrate." While the crowd bustles whispers and hushed comments around the Alpha continues talking as he starts giving out tasks and orders for everyone, and to my surprise, they listen.

As everyone does as Joash asks them to I find the first moment I can to slip away and grab the knife the Luna bought me when we went shopping earlier. I saw it in a window, and she decided I needed it, along with an outfit to go with lessons on how to use it taught by her. I agreed knowing there is no saying no to her. Tugging on the outfit she got me I swiftly hand the dress up knowing what lecture I'd get later if I didn't, and slip back down to all the commotion.

With all that's going on tonight, I'm abashed by the fact that I feel bad for the interruption to Chase's party.
