"You look like a unicorn!" Draco laughed and Stephanie seethed red.
"Don't go drinking my blood to be immortal," She said, holding her newly dyed hair tentatively between her fingers.
"I wouldn't even touch you, you're blood is probably diseased," Draco laughed more and others with him.
"Just back off Malfoy!" Ron spat, stepping out from behind Stephanie, he and his hair were just as red as her face.
"Did you color it to be like Weasley here? Poor choice really."
"Pink is a long way from ginger," Stephanie said.
"You still look like a poor mudblood!" Draco looked specifically at Weasley with a mean gleam in his eye.
Ron fumed and stepped toward Draco, but she beat him to it. Her clenched fist was shaking and begging to break against Draco's face. Harry beat them both. He stepped from between them and ushered them away, casually ignoring Draco's jests. Stephanie knew he was secretly just as mad, and his knuckles were white where they clenched at the Ron's and Stephanie's robes and his legs shook as though with every step would turn back to Draco as he pushed them back to the Gryffindor common room.
"Why'd you do that?" Ron complained on the armchair inside the common room. "Steph was 'bout to put a lovely dent in his weasel face."
"That is exactly why Harry stopped her, Ron." Hermione scoffed. She continued reading her book, making it clear she didn't want to be included in the conversation, but she still interjected and looked up from her book to watch their faces.
"You'd be so upset afterward if you'd done it," Harry said to Stephanie.
"I'm still upset," She grumbled.
"But less upset than if you punched him," Hermione said, pointing to her knowingly.
Stephanie shrugged. "Why do you like that prick anyway?" Ron whined.
"I don't like him." She said.
"Oh yeah," Ron smiled wickedly. "You fancy him. Oo-la-la."
"I hate you," She said seriously, but her pathetic pout made Ron laugh.
"You're not denying it."
"I'm not denying what so obviously is wrong."
"You can't get around it," Hermione joined in again. "We all know you like him."
"He's a bully!" Stephanie sat up straight on the couch and looked Hermione straight in the eye. "He hates us, and you heard what he said 'bout Ron."
"And yet you still fancy him," Ron said.
"I do not. And even if I did, which I don't, I can't do anything because he doesn't like me. He's made that very clear."
"What's the harm in trying?" Harry asked.
"Eternal embarrassment, shame, forever fueling his horrible jokes." Stephanie counted the list off on her fingers like she was counting, then she showed the number to Harry.
"I think the question Harry should be asking is, what's the harm in not trying?" Hermione said.
"I see very little," She responded, being slightly dishonest.
"You're always brooding-" Ron began.
"I leave that to you Ronald," She laughed.
Ron cleared his throat and continued, his cheeks glowing red with embarrassment as Hermione and Harry laughed at him. "If we don't make you do this now, you'll be whining to us about it for years."
