Even from behind she interested him. Sirius, occupied by other thoughts, instinctively approached her. Her long blonde hair was pulled up in an almost intentionally casual way, but there had to be some trick to it because her hair seemed far too long. It could have been possible he had missed it growing longer in the last few years he'd spent lost in her green eyes. He wasn't nearly as observant as Peter, or as reasoning as Remus, or even as obsessive as James, though he did have his moments. But that's what made him human, and previous girlfriends had called it alluring.

All throughout breakfast she didn't turn her head. Her mousy hair was all he could see through the excruciatingly long meal time. No matter how many times he begged her to turn around, to just peek over her shoulder and for her hair to fall over her face as her eyes met his and she smiled, but the universe wouldn't comply.

In the hall after breakfast, James knocked him upside the head and teased him relentlessly. He made sure Evelyn wasn't there though, James had some respect left for his love struck friend. But Remus on the other hand, today had to be the day he broke out of his docile shell. Sure, he'd been the cause of pranks before that Sirius and James ultimately got blamed for, but he'd never lost a general sense of decency towards his friends.

There was the day Remus convinced Evelyn's dormmate to steal her perfume, with which he covered Sirius's entire bed and all his clothing. Evelyn found it rather amusing, especially when Sirius blushed as red as the Gryffindor scarf she wore as a headband. Then there was the time he replaced all the lion's face on his uniforms into her face. Then the week he convinced Slughorn to let him brew amortentia , 'for educational purposes'. Slughorn was delighted, because of course it was a perfect batch. Evelyn had no clue what was happening, but was incredibly confused when everything in the castle smelled of dogs and a mix of chocolate and green apples, the same smell of his cologne. Sirius does not now how he stretched out a cauldron of liquid to cover the entire castle, but he knows it takes very little amortentia to take effect over a large area.

Sirius doesn't know what he plans to do next. He begs Remus to stop, or to even tell him what he's going to do, but Remus does neither. After two weeks without a prank, the longest time Remus has gone between them, Sirius starts to feel nervous. He's constantly watching Evelyn, next to her in every class. He claims it's to make sure Remus doesn't do anything, but his friend's think otherwise.

In potions, after an awkward few hours without seeing her, Sirius finally feels relief when there seems to be nothing off. He sits next to her with a nice smile which she returns and his body immediately tenses when he sees Remus's quiet grin from across the aisle. He asks her to switch seats with him, so she's as far away from Remus as possible. She's apprehensive but eventually caves in to his begging eyes that have a glint of worry hidden behind them.

The class passes without incident, but it's on the way out that he makes his first mistake. Remus slides of his chair quickly and is making his way towards them. Sirius jumps, piling his things in his arms to that he can get off the chair in time to get her out of the way. Evelyn, is in no such hurry, and steps off her stool without even looking at him. That was when Sirius immediately stopped, but Remus didn't and they toppled over in a heap. Remus remained standing, with a few of his belongings strewn on the floor. Sirius crushed her under his weight and quickly tried to stand up.

That was when he made his second mistake. Her long hair seemed to defy gravity and travelled up with him for just long enough for him to catch a fleeting smell. She smelled amazing, like cinnamon. Man, had Sirius wished he'd remembered he was allergic to cinnamon.
