(A/N Y'all, this is the third oneshot I've written tonight. It may not seem that way because I'm uploading them at different times, but it's true. My only day off since holiday ended and I'm going to burst from the stress bubble suffocating me. But nonetheless, you guys wanted updates so here they are!)

Mackenzie Andrews, the all American with an American accent and an American name. She even had a tattoo of the American flag on her back, only because her and a very drunk friend got them together when they first arrived in Britain. She discovered the drinking age was much lower here, and for good reason too. It turned out Mackenzie was the type to make poor decisions and then forget that they ever happened. At least the art was good, rather than a cheap job done on the fly in the middle of the night.

Sirius Black was obsessed with American culture, specifically the muggle culture, and so by default Mackenzie became his conduit. He called it an interest in other cultures and places, she called it fangirling. He pretended not to hear her say that.

She was the least patriotic American any of them had ever met, and for some of them the only American. But Sirius was insistent on breaking her. He knew there was a country singing, gun shooting, religious freak inside her. She called that stereotyping, he pretended not to hear that either.

There was a lot Sirius pretended not to hear or see, but not if there was any way he would ever be able to tease Mackenzie about it. Like the time all the banners in the common room were changed to American flags on the Fourth of July, with the help of Remus. She pretended not to see that.

She pretended not to hear the fireworks being set off in the courtyard, against school rules. He pretended not to see the packages she received from her family, hamburgers and drinks preserved with magic like no other he'd tasted before. She ate these before he could even smell the still hot toasted bun of a breakfast sandwich. She pretended that she didn't miss home, especially the food.

They both pretended Sirius didn't spend weeks searching through stores and restaurants until he found the most American barbeque place in all of London. She pretended not to find it sweet. Everyone pretended that they didn't go on monthly trips to the restaurant to pig out and talk, but they all knew it.

Mackenzie had one secret left, and not even she knew what it was. The uncertainty was killing her, her hands shook from the nerves and she didn't eat anything for breakfast. She was too stuffed with meat and sauces from eating with Sirius the weekend before anyway. But the nerves that came from every pair of eyes watching her were much worse. She didn't want to participate, but the professor was very clear. She had to cast a patronus, today, if she wanted to pass. If she failed, she'd go back to America. She pretended that the idea of never seeing Sirius again didn't scare her.

So she cast the spell, and everyone pretended not to hear the anxiety under her voice. But despite it all, she spoke as clearly as she could and stood up as straight as she could. She raised her wand nervously, trying to will the shaking in her hands to stop. Sirius pretended not to see.

A bright blue burst of light of a shade she'd never seen before erupted from her wand. The sheer force shoved her back, into the crowd of people. The crowd separated to let her fall, and Sirius pretended that he wasn't there to catch her. She was too busy gazing at the animal in front of her to notice.

"Goddammit!" Mackenzie cried out as the bird swooped over her head. She looked right into the eyes of the bald eagle. Years of reversing her stereotype, wasted.

"My golly!" Yelled James, cracking into laughter. "She a patriot, that one."

She buried her face in her hands and bent over her waist with an agonizing groan.

"What's this?" Sirius whispered in her red ears, colored with embarrassment. He pulled the hem of her shirt up just enough to tease her. The coloring against her skin peaked out just enough to cause a panic in her heart.

"Shut it," She said, pulling her shirt down with so much force Sirius could almost see down the top. "If you tell anyone about this, I swear to god!"

"Fine," He said cheekily. "But you have to let me see the rest."

"I'm going to break your arm in your sleep," She threatened quietly.

He pretended not to hear her. "Check out the ink on her!" He yelled over the talking and laughter. It only increased as he flashed the tattoo for all to see. Mackenzie pretended not to hex him right where he stood.

"Fighting with magic will not be tolerated in my classroom!" A professor scolded her twice during her detention.

"I'll just punch him next time, no magic," She mumbled under her breath and the professor pretended not to hear.
