Chapter Twenty-Five

***********************

[Rachel's POV]

"He is getting married." Hilbert took an invitation card from the table after he would have returned from work.

I know. My mind failed to re-generate something useful after that he had caught me taking the preview of his wedding. The checklist on the rings vividly deepened in image as I couldn't take it off from my mind.

"Rachel." My eyes watched his when he suddenly took a close-up on my expression as he sat beside me, leaving no distance between us. "Will you do me the honor to marry me?"

I widened my eyes in shock, "I-"

He looked at me in that .ever serious look, "You said about the decision made between me and Chris. Now that the wedding has to go on, the options would be revised and me - would be the remaining option available."

Frowned at his analyzed conclusion, I can't deny that he was right but... the proposal came too soon.

"In anyway, I decided to love you and I just want you in my life only. What's more to wait when we are in this situation?" He pulled me into his arms, brushing my back gently.

"You know very little about me to get into a marriage with me." I whispered as I lay quietly on his chest.

He take a peck on my forehead, "Try me"

"I came from-" That darkest corner, my secret was something that I choose to hide but as I looked at his eyes, I stuttered in despair that this awesome man was the reason I choose to pull myself away from him. Chris didn't came from a wealthy and powerful background, he was in fact like any other man whom worked to get to where he wanted to achieve. It left me comfort in that.

But, Hilbert was different and I couldn't bear to live in the shadow of his lights. Marriage would expose my secret and most probably of the expected insults which I would get from his family.

"I know, Incest family" Hilbert sighed, like he had knew all this while but choose to keep mum about his awareness.

Gasped in shock, I looked at the man seriously for the first time. He had taken care of me when I would break and fell. Knowing that I was embarrassed from my background, he chooses to keep quiet about it even he was to know. All he just wanted was to make me feel comfortable if that means he would not say a word about it.

"I am sorry..." Biting my lips, I felt ashamed about myself in front of him.

"Why should you?" Hilbert turned to face me as he cupped my chin, closing up a kiss on my lips.

"I love the way you are." He smiled, trying to make me understand that he just wanted me to be me in my most comfort way.

Suddenly, his mobile vibrated in his pocket before he picked up and answered. "Hilbert speaking"

"Chris? Oh yes, we'll be happy to have you remain in the company. Yeah come over after tomorrow." He looked at me before taking a few steps away as he started talking business with Chris. I watched him carefully as he led himself in a radiance smile worn across his face.

He poured a glass of wine and took a sip as he nodded to some part of conversation that Chris was discussing with him. "Yes. I don't think me and Rachel would attend. I might need to go to the office to register my marriage with her-"

Widened in shock at his last sentence, he had taken my silence as acceptance.
