Chapter Twenty-One

***********************

(Rachel's POV)

"For now, you will put up with here" The luggage landed on the wooden floor. Decoration of the apartment was simple and classic. Right in front of the main door was welcomed with a L-shaped beige leather sofa. The 32 inch plasma black television classified the modern lifestyle of the owner. From the right side of the living stands a small balcony.

Walking towards the balcony, I landed myself with the landscape of a beautiful night scenery. The lighting of mini houses and buildings from the view here was exceptionally intriguing.

My eyes smiled as I admired. Just then the man stopped beside me as he accompanied.

"Thank you." I gradually thanked him for all this. The short get-away trip and this apartment.

Without him, I wouldn't have know what to do after leaving Chris. Because I have made myself totally depended on Chris. He was once everything I had and everything of him was what I actually lived for.

Now that Chris and Grace were going to prepare their wedding and the marriage life that they were going to share, I have to live my life again for myself. Although it was hard but it was the only choice that I had left.

"This is my uncle's gift. I do stay here once in awhile for my school projects or some gathering with friends." He smiled at my gratitude towards him. Breathing in the clean and dense air, we both stood quietly beside as the moment was just simply genuine.

"You are not staying for dinner?" I looked up at the man whom was ready to leave. From the open concept kitchen, there was an island and dining table which located right at the left side from the entrance of the main door. My hands went busy taking out the ingredients from the fridge for tonight's dinner. I was still thinking about whether does Hilbert would eat a lot or not.

"I need to go back for dinner. My family is waiting for me." He tucked his hands in the pocket as I looked at him curiously.

Covering my mouth, I almost forgot about Hilbert's family. It would be obvious that he had to return home for dinner since he had taken me to a get-away trip for like a week or more.

All the while I had lived on my own before Chris came by. I didn't know about the existence of having dinner with family. Even with Chris in the picture, I was either settling my dinner on my own or sometimes having dinner with Chris. For Chris, he had his own set of tragics. He left with his father when he was very young and lived with the step family that his father re-married at his age of twelve. Ever since he had left his mother with his father, he hadn't seen his mother again.

"I am sorry..." Apologetic of my thoughts like I was some possessive girlfriend asking him to stay for dinner. It felt so awkward. No matter what, we were only just close confidants that could share conversations.

"It's okay." He scratched behind his head, feeling the awkwardness in between, "Just that... Grandpa would miss me, I should get going to let the old folk see me"

"Y-Ya, you should." I smiled at his explanation.

(Chris's POV)

"There is a new change of direction in the company." Mr Greene, the seldom visitor of Solitaire appeared in my room.

I waited for him as he sat on the sofa. Signalling Lin to get the coffee ready, I observed Mr's Greene every action. It seemed like a big issue that he would specifically paid a visit to come down and looked for me.
