Chapter Fourteen

[Rachel's POV]

My fingers embraced the objects lying on the dressing table. Grabbing a bracelet made of pearl in my miniature accessories basket, I stared in long moments.

I could remember his eyes smiling under the brazing sun. It was that another moment of us enjoying the sea breeze. There were small and casual booth selling many things. My eyes locked on the bracelet. It was made of eighteen pink colour pearls.

The owner said that eighteen pearls were made of eighteen pearl-like tears. It meant eighteen obstacles that love would have to shed tears on which lovers will gone through. The bracelet was a symbol of true love.

Chris knew I love it on first sight and bought it as the first gift.

I let out a sigh. My hand shaken in thoughts if I should keep it. Leaving the dressing table, I went to the wardrobe. Pulling down the dresses from the hanger, I folded them. One by one as I placed them in the black luggage on the floor.

How long had it been?

Looking up at the clock on the wall, it was already eleven in the night. I pulled up my luggage. Eyes stared at the bracelet for long. Biting my lips, I decided to keep it. Taking it away from the dressing and stuff it in my pocket.

The legs went up to the door. I touched the wooden pane and feel the person inside. Chris must have off light to sleep. Tomorrow, Grace would move in. As for me, I would move out.

Turning away from the door, I dragged my luggage through the corridor. It was a difficult good bye. I hadn't figure out that I would leave.

Tears embraced me.

"W-What are you doing?" He watched me.

My eyes fluttered the tears away. I looked up and exchanged glances with him.

"Just what are you doing?" Shook in denial, he repeated his question. His eyes were strongly coloured with disgust and agony. But there was a little pinch of love somehow in that pair of fearful eyes.

"I am going." Answered in reluctant. This was not supposed to be an official goodbye.

I was too afraid to face him.

"After all these years, this was going to be your decision." He grabbed his fist.

"Chris, don't." Shook my head, I looked down. Avoiding his stares that would made me decide otherwise. I knew leaving was the only easy way out for me.

His feet moved him nearer. Closing the distance between us, his hand cupped my cheek. The eyes were filled with sadness. There was an empty silence clipped between us. Our breathing were slow.

Shutting my eyes as I feel his presence. His nose touched mine as the distance was zero. Lips embraced in thin moist. The tongue entwined as I could feel his hands circled around my waist.

Just then, Chris pulled me away. He covered his mouth and shivered. It was a sign of his disgust.

My face turn green. Eyes stared at the embarrassment. I could felt my dignity pulled down at his sudden denial of our passion.

It was then the tears which forced me to leave.

"I-I" My lips opened to formed words but was stopped for an official goodbye.

It was just too hard.

I turned away and dragged the luggage out of the apartment.

[Chris' POV]

"How could you cheat on me." My words let out, "with your family."

A sentence formed in bewilderment. Facts like it was absolute truth. There was an understatement which I want to hear from her. 

"I didn't." She insisted.

"You are still denying?" My doubts went forward.

I didn't know what I was driving on. It needed assurance to felt better. Eyes froze on the lady that was standing at the lift. She was shaken with the luggage beside her. I could felt her sniffing badly. Imagining the tears that were flowing endlessly on her.

"I said..." That face turned back and looked at me, "I didn't"

Her breathing caught with anger. She tuned on a zero frequency.

Just then the lift had opened on our level twelve. I watched her dragging the luggage with effort. My hands wanted to stretch out to stop her. It was all too late when I saw her eyes. They were filled with hatred.

I could do nothing but watched the door closed on me.

Rachel is gone.
