-JJ's P.O.V-

Breakfast was never a joyful occasion for JJ. It was the same routine every morning; His over tired father sat in silence whilst taking large gulps from his black coffee with his nose stuck in last Sunday's newspaper. Not to mention his fake stepmother who was constantly forcing burned bagels down his throat.

"Eat up," she told JJ as the rock hard catastrophe was pushed towards him. He'd often devise a plan to hide the over cooked food with out anyone noticing but this morning that wasn't possible. His stepmother, Sarah, was watching him with wide eyes, just waiting for him to take the first bite.
He'd probably no doubt break all his front teeth in the process but he didn't want to hurt her shallow, almost non-existing feelings. So he took a bite.

He crunched down on the bagel, trying with everything he had not to gag. Sarah flashed him a large grin once he'd lied about how lovely it was.

Sarah was just about to make him take another bite when Kyle came thought the door. Her attention quickly diverted to her blood born son. He was wearing a light pink shirt that he bought at the weekend. Sarah gushed at how "precious" he looked in it.

"Nice shirt, bud," JJ complimented his little half brother. Kyle blushed, his cheeks going almost as pink as his shirt. JJ's father peeked over his newspaper and scowled.

"You don't want to wear pink, real men don't wear pink," he told his youngest son. His smile dropped to his ankles in an instant. "well then maybe i'm not a real man," Kyle retorted. He tried to ignore his dad by sitting Down at the table and grabbing a burnt bagel.

Sarah grabbed the paper out of her husband's hand and pointed her overly manicured finger nail in his face. "He will wear what he wants, Ted," she whisper yelled.

Ted rolled his eyes and folded his newspaper up neatly before placing it on the table next to his coffee. "Kyle, son, thirteen year old boys don't wear pink, they get picked on, now go and change," JJ's fathernn spoke gently but his words were filled with maleficence.

Kyle sighed and attempted to get down from his chair but JJ held onto his bro's arm tightly, telling him to stay put. "It's fine, dad, I've worn pink to school before, contrary to your beliefs it's not the 1950s  anymore, people don't give a bull's testicle about gender rolls, it's only a pink shirt," JJ's truthful words sent their father to silence.

He grunted but didn't say much else about the matter. Kyle smiled up at his brother, silently thanking him. Their father is strict, they both know this. Not many people stand up to "Ted the Great" as he wishes to be known. The only person who puts Ted in his place is Sarah, JJ's convinced that's the only thing she's useful for.

The breakfast table was filled with an awkward atmosphere. JJ couldn't stand it. "I think Kyle and I are going to head to school," He announced before grabbing his school bag. He was leaving almost ten minuets earlier than usual but he didn't care, anything to get him away from his parents.

He picked up the headphones that belonged to the boy from last night and shoved them in his blazer pocket. Kyle had his bag slung over his shoulder as he waited for JJ at the front door.

-

The fact that they had to walk to school because Sarah was too lazy to drive them was bad enough but when it decides to piss it down with rain makes the whole ordeal even worse. "We should have bought an umbrella," Kyle said, stating the obvious. The rain had flattened JJ's perfectly styled quiff onto his forehead.

JJ looked at his brother and nodded slowly. "Yes, Kyle that would have been a brilliant idea," Kyle rolled his eyes at JJ's sarcastic comment.
-
They walked to the school gate dripping wet. JJ's blazer was leaving a trail of water behind him as he walked and Kyle was complaining About his socks being wet. "I can hear them sloshing, JJ,"Kyle said, sounding rather distraught.

JJ shrugged his shoulders. "What do you want me to do?"He asked.

"Give me yours?"Kyle didn't understand the rhetorical question.

JJ scoffed. "You wish".

Once they arrived through the school Kyle quickly manicured away from his brother to find his friend, Kelly. JJ was about to do the same when he remembered; the headphones.
His friends can wait. He headed to the only place he could imagine the blue haired boy being. JJ looked through the window of the library, there were multiple empty tables. He couldn't spot the mop of blue hair any where.
He sighed in frustration. Fucking hell, he thought to himself as he walked away from the library. He saw his friend, Claire, waving him over to her and Brian.
Claire and Brian are interesting people, not the good interesting like they play in a band or that they have famous relatives, no. Claire didn't like fat people and Brian is openly racist and homophobic. That's one of the reasons why JJ hasn't come out as gay yet.

"Hey, guys," JJ greeted his friends as he approached them. Claire smiled her blindingly bright smile and Brian raised his hand for a high five.
The rest of the football team and some of Claire's girl friends don't come to school until form time so it's just them three in the mornings, he liked it like that because it quiet and peaceful.

"Did you guys see that fat girl, she's like one burger away from death," Clair spoke with a tone of disgust in her voice as her eyes followed the not-at-all fat girl. Neither Brian or I said anything, we just pretended to agree.
"how the hell did she even find a blazer to fit?" Much to JJ's despair, Clair continued her rant.

Rants as powerful as Clair's could go on for hours, days even. JJ's mind wondered away from the voice of his ignorant friends. He has more important things to think about, like the whereabouts of the boy with the hair from last night.
The school bell suddenly sounded and the room filled with aggressive sighs of dread. After giving Brian a 'see ya later,Man' fist bump JJ followed Claire to their form room.
