Chapter Thirteen - Proud

Katniss POV

"You're a dangerous love" I sing softly as I do my makeup for the day whilst Ariana Grande's new album is playing.

"Housemates; for today's task, Big Brother has places serval phones around the house and in the garden. Throughout the day you will receive calls from your loved ones but also some random calls. You will have a certain amount of minutes for the entire day, including all calls. If you go over these minutes, there will be a punishment. Loved ones will remain anonymous and the one way to figure out who they are calling for is to ask them questions; but they can only answer with yes, no, maybe. The task will begin now."

My eyes widen and I see down lipstick, run into the living room and see everyone else standing there.

You can tell we are all eggar to get a call from our families, considering we haven't seen them in almost 3 weeks.

I soon realise there are phones outside as well and I think Peeta must realise the same thing because next thing he lifts me over his shoulder and starts carrying me out to the garden, "Hey!" I shout as he sets me down on the grass, "You could've just took my hand and led me out here"

"But that ways so much more fun" he says whilst stepping closer to me. He sets his hand on my bum and gives it a gentle squeeze, "so much more fun" he says into my ear.

I push him back a little, making him chuckle.

About 10 minutes later, a phone from the inside goes off.

I see Annie picking it up and looking confused but after a minute she hands it to Finnick and I see the joy on his face as he talks to someone he loves.

I'm just hoping my dad or Prim calls. I would love to here from my mum too but she won't tell me how I am really being seen on the outside.

At the last live eviction I got boo'd and that really hurt me. I came in this house to change people's perception of me. A couple months back, almost a year ago, I had a massive fight with Gale and I ended up going out and getting absolutely hammered by drink. And I repeated that for about a month until Prim got through to be as she said it hurt her to see me like this.

So I changed, I don't really drink anymore, I don't go out partying on my own because I don't want to be seen in a certain way. I used to go out partying with Gale until he got jealous that another guy was talking to me and after that he said we couldn't go out again.

My mum might not tell me the truth but I know my dad will. He's not a man to just throw words and feelings around. If he tells me he's proud of me, he means it. He'll also tell me when I'm not doing well, he'll tell me how I'm looking on the outside.

Prim, my little sister who means the absolute world to me. She won't exactly tell me how it is, but I just miss her voice so much. I spend most of my time with Prim. I used to do it just to get away from Gale but then I actually started to like spending every weekend with her. Now I love it.

That's what hard about being in here. I don't have anyone. I have Peeta but he's not family. I treasure my family, every one of my family members can cheer me up almost instantly.

I'm broken out of my thought by Johanna shouting at me from the inside of the house.

I run in and she tells me there's a man on the phone for me.

I out the phone to my ear and let out a shaky breath, "Hello?"

"Katniss it's dad!" The voice on the other end exclaims.

"Oh my god dad!"

"Are you okay?" He asks concerned.

"Yeah I'm just so happy to hear from you!" I say. I look at Johanna and she points me in the direction of a big clock in the centre of the living room. That must be the clock that keeps time of how many minutes we're using, "Dad I don't have much time to talk"

"I know, we've been told. I just want to say how proud I am of you! You are doing amazing honey and I can't wait until you come out so I can tell you that in person!" Dad tells me.

"Really?" I cry.

"Really! Oh and also tell Peeta I'll need a chat with him when you both come out because I feel like I'll be seeing a lot more of him"

"You will" I chuckle.

"I like him though Katniss, he seems to make you happy"

I look over at Peeta who is looking back at me with pure adoration and I smile back at him, "he does" I say to my dad, "Dad I better go, I'm almost out of time"

"Okay sweetheart, I love you! Just keep being yourself!"

"Okay, love you dad!" I say back before putting the phone down.

I let out a happy laugh before running into Peeta's arms and hugging him tight, "he said he was proud of me" I say into his chest.

"And so he should be" Peeta says back to me as he gently stokes my hair.

The rest of the day is filled with multiple phone calls from all of us. I got a phone call from Prim as well- well Prim and my mum because she said a quick hello too.

Peeta got a call from his mum and brother. He told me his mum said she can't wait to meet me and I can't even tell you how big the smile on my face was.

It won't last long though because tonight is another live eviction and me, Peeta and Cressida are up for eviction.
