Complicated

Chapter 2

My eyes go from the tipsy blonde to my high boyfriend. Words threaten to leave my mouth but I don't dare to let my mind speak. I bite the inside of my cheek to stop the words from coming out.

"Are you having fun since I saw you last?" She mixes another giggle in her sentence. Would you stop laughing? I'm standing by her, trying to swallow the knot in my throat..and shes laughing at ever chance she gets.

"Yes, whatabout you?" His words slur similar to Toni's.

"I'm having a greattime." She smiles large. I remain with my confused look painted on my face. I finally take a deep breath and begin my attempt to speak.

"W-what's going on?" My voice is shaky and barely heard, being drowned out with the music yet again. His brown eyes continue to be invaded with the red.

"What do you mean?" He plays.

"Did you smoke..with Toni?" The instantaneous smile drawn on their face answer my question before they answer. I hold back the water attempting to fill my eyes.

"It's just marijuana" he mocks. I can't deal with this. Why would I come here with my friend. I know no one here, my best friend got high with my boyfriend without telling me. I swear she does everything behind my back and I'm oblivious. I am about to explode, the frustration building up in me.

"Why wouldn't you guys tell me?"

"Because he needed to have a little fun you know. You're always smothering him. Give him room to breath Vicky!" She shouts. Really? You're shout at me.

"You shouldn't be going behind my frigging back and be doing shit with him!" I yell back, the words hurt me more than they did when they were swirling in my head.

They both grow silent and stare at each other with wide eyes. That I wasn't expecting. Why would their moods change so suddenly? I continue to look at both of them, the two closest people to me that have a bit of a frantic look on their face.

"What?" I hear my confused voice demand to know what they are hiding from me. Even though I don't know what it is, I can surely see it's worse than 'just' smoking weed and that scares me.

I repeat my last question louder and refocus their attention back to me.

"Nothing! God Victoria, you need to learn how to have fun once in a while." Toni storms away. She never calls me 'Victoria' unless she's pissed. Why should she be angry if she's hiding something from me? And where does fun come into this? Smoking?

When I begin to open my mouth to Erich's confused face, I feel a tug on my arm. Skylar's innocent eyes are staring at me with all seriousness, she glances at Erich and looks back at me.

"Can I talk to you?" She says in my ear.

I nod and walk with her as she leads me through the crowd and up the stairs of the frat house. The muffled sounds of the music are the only noises and my ears are relieved.

"What's up?"

She looks nervous and continues looking around.

"Hmm?" I say impatiently waiting to find out what she brought me up here for.

"Ok so I saw Toni and Erich come up here a-and walk into this bedroom..." She finally announces.

"Yea and I'm pissed off. Erich smoked with her! With Toni! How could she do that to me!" The anger speaking for me.

She looks down and her eyes look glassy. My mood changes seeing my friend upset. She might as well be my reflection. She's never drank or smoked. Going to this party is probably the worst thing she's ever done.

"Well.. I don't think..that's the worst of it.." she let's out, looking up at me.

I stay there silently thinking. What did she do to him. I feel enraged, disappointed, and curious to find out. Would she kiss him? The thought blows me back a step and I think again before talking.

"How do you even know about this?" I question.

"I was up here to go to the bathroom. I couldn't find you so I wanted to get away from all the noise. When I was coming up, I saw Erich & Toni sneaking in front of me, giggling and nudging."

"Go on.." I finally say, imagining this scene in my head.

"So Erich followed Toni into the room locking the door. I didn't know what happened until about half an hour later. They came out laughing and whispering. When Toni saw me, she mumbled something to Erich and he nodded. He passed me to go to the bathroom and reeked of marijuana." She takes a breath and continues. "So Toni smiled to me and came closer."

(Skylar & Toni's conversation)

"Wh-what just happened in there? Were you two smoking!" Skylar shouts

"Can you keep a secret?" Toni's grin grows and it is obvious that it is going to be a story.
