"What the hell is wrong with you?!"
I cringed slightly at the cold, angry tone in my brother's voice, "I'm sorry."
"Sorry? You're sorry? Alex, you just put your life... no wait, scratch that, you put all of our lives on the line just to save some girl!" Zeke raged.
I tried my best not to roll my eyes and instead just stared at the ground. To be honest, I had no idea what had come over me. I had been completely fine with just standing there watching her be attacked by the Quertos, knowing there was nothing I could do, but then she had looked at me with those big blue eyes and-
God, what was wrong with me? I didn't know this girl! I didn't even know her name. Plus, it's not like I haven't watched someone get beaten or killed before. Well, I'd seen guys get beaten and killed before... In fact, that must have been the problem! It wasn't that I particularly cared for this girl herself, it was just the fact that morally, I couldn't just stand there and watch Jay, Kade and Thane basically kill a defenseless girl.
I smiled satisfied with that explanation.
"What are you smiling about?" Zeke asked angrily, "you broke the treaty Alex! This is a big deal! You really fucked up you idiot!"
I met his cold glare with a cool, calm stare of my own, "Mom always taught me it's not okay to hit a woman. I apologize for the fact that I was apparently the only one who actually listened to and cared about what Mom told us."
Zeke's ice filled eyes widened slightly. Honestly, it was a low blow bringing up Mom, but I was getting tired of him yelling at me.
"Alex, Zeke... come on, let's not fight" Wes said in a voice that seemed annoyingly cheery at this point.
"Yeah, please don't" Cassidy added with that small smile of his that was barely there yet still filled with so much warmth.
Already I could feel myself calming down, just by looking at it. Honestly, I had no idea how he did that. I sighed and then got up off the couch I'd been sitting on, starting out of the living room.
"Where are you going?" Zeke asked.
"I want to be there when she wakes up" I said, not even turning around, "I mean, I still don't even know her name."

I could feel the warmth of sunlight on my face. I sighed contently and went to snuggle deeper into the pillow I was resting on, but that just sent pain spiking into my stomach and twisting all the way through to my back. My eyes shot open as I sucked in a painful breath. I found myself lying in a large bed in the middle of a plain white room with a small window on the right wall.
"She's awake!" someone exclaimed.
I looked up and locked gazes with a pair of brown eyes. Alex.
"You okay?" he asked.
I started to nod but head yes, but then I stopped and thought for a moment, "no. How long was I out?"
"Two days. I've been checking on you every day, waiting for you to get up. It would be really disappointing to have saved you only for you to get a comma or something and just never wake up" he shrugged.
Wow, how nice, I thought sarcastically.
"What were you doing there in the first place? Don't you know it's dangerous to be walking around by yourself at one thirty in the morning?" Alex questioned, raising an eyebrow.
