As we pulled into the driveway of our safe house, I couldn't help but recall the words that Brock had said only moments earlier: 'I may dislike you but I wouldn't want to dead.' I felt the same way about him. In fact, I was really hoping that he'd be alright. He never should have been pulled into this in the first place.
Jack's hand was clasped in mine and I stroked it absentmindedly as Zeke murmured comforting words. It pained me to see how much this scared and hurt her, but I was so happy that Zeke was finally opening up to her. Maybe now he'd been willing to seriously start trying to figure out what we could do to help Jack and save her father.
"Alright Jacky, we're going to have to get out of the van now. Do you want Alex to carry you?" Zeke asked, opening up the door.
Jack nodded. I smiled slightly before gently picking her up and getting out of the van. I walked inside the house, careful to not hit her head on the door frame. I brought her into the bedroom that I usually claimed as my own, figuring I could just sleep on the couch instead. I tucked her under the covers and sat down on the edge of her bed, brushing her hair back. She had her eyes squeezed shut as if she was trying to block out the world.
"I'm so sorry you had to see that Jack" I whispered.
"Stay with me?" she asked quietly, "will you lie down and stay with me?"
"Do you want some dinner, or do you want to just go to bed?" I questioned.
She shook her head, "I can't eat."
I nodded, "alright."
With that, I climbed under the covers.

I woke up with a cry in a complete panic. There was something wrapped tightly around my waist and I tried desperately to escape.
"Jack! Jack, calm down!" a voice soothed, "Jack, you're okay."
I turned towards the voice, still feeling slightly scared. Then, when I realized that it was just Alex, I felt myself immediately begin to calm down.
"Nightmare?" Alex guessed.
I nodded my head and let out a sigh, "and I can't even really remember most of it but I can guess what I was about."
He nodded, "yeah..."
"What time is it?" I asked, running my hands down my face.
"It's seven forty" he replied after checking his phone.
I sighed, "we'd better get a move on then, otherwise we'll be late."
Alex shook his head at me, "I should have known you'd still want to go to school."
I threw the covers back and swung my legs over the side of the bed, not wanting to leave the warmth of my spot beside Alex but knowing that if I didn't move now, I never would.
"Of course I do" I said, "I can't let Jay cause me to miss school. I can't let what he did get to me."
I grabbed a new tank top to change into, already wearing my jeans... which were still the only pair I owned.
"Do you want to borrow a pair of my sweats?" Alex asked.
I smiled slightly, "could I?"
"Well, unless you were really set on wearing those jeans again..." he trailed off.
