I watched Jack glance around the training room, her eyes wide. They got even wider- if that was even possible- as she took in the whole wall covered in self-defense weapons. A small smile grew on her face and I could tell she was excited to begin.

"Alright, let's get started" I grinned.

Jack smiled, "okay, but let's make this quick; Chloe wants to go to the mall later."

"Well fine then, I see where I stand" I joked.

"Yep, pretty much" she winked.

I smiled and shook my head at her.

"Come on" I muttered.

"Alright, now, do you remember everything we've been over so far?" Alex asked, circling me slowly.

I nodded.

"Where an attacker is standing will determine how you defend yourself. If, for example, an attacker is standing further away from you, don't step closer to strike them with your hand when you can just as easily kick him in the knee. If you're striking an attacker on the upper half of the body, you will use your hand and if you're striking an attacker on the bottom half of the body, you will use your foot" I recited.

"Good" Alex smiled, "now, let's say for example, that I'm trying to attack you, and I grab onto your upper arm. I'm standing close to you, so what are your defense options?"

Alex walked up to me and lightly took a hold of my upper arm, putting a fake scowl on his face.

"Arg, I'm an attacker" he said in a weird accent.

I let out a small chuckle and shook my head.

"Well" I started, "since you're standing so close, I could strike up under your nose with the palm of my hand, strach at your eyes, or strike at the side of your neck where your carotid artery and jugular vein are."

He grinned at me, "exactly."

I smiled back up at him, feeling proud that I'd remembered everything. For a moment, we both just stood there, staring at each other. I suddenely became very aware of the fact that we were standing very close to each other; the light pressure of Alex's fingers wrapped around my arm. Alex's lips parted slightly as he stared down at me. My stomach did a weird little flip before giving a tight squeeze and I honestly had no idea what it meant. I wanted to be closer to Alex. I stared at his lips and-

"Your phone has impeccable timing" Alex muttered, pulling away from me.

I pulled my phone from my pocket and flipped it open.

"Hello?" I answered.

"Hey girl, are you done yet or is Alex going to hog you all afternoon?" Chloe whined from the other end of the line.

"Um, I'm not sure..." I trailed off, looking to Alex for the answer.

"Chloe?" he guessed.

I nodded.

"If you want to go hang out with her, I'm not going to stop you, " Alex smiled.

I gave him a thankful smile before turning back to my phone.

"I'm close to the school right now, so do you want to come pick me up there and then we can go?" I asked.

"Yeah, sure" Chloe replied.
