“Call me later, okay?” Seth asked as he led me down the stairs.
“Why wouldn’t I? We’re still on for Wednesday, right, for Modern Family?”
“Of course,” we reached the door and he, being the gentleman, held it open for me. He followed me outside. Before I could step onto the street to go around me car, his arm snatched my elbow and pulled me back into him. I didn’t get much to say as his lips crashed down on me.
The chilly air didn’t disturb us as the heat of our passion warmed both of our bodies. I felt him smile against my lips and I imitated the formation on my own lips. After a minute we had to break for a much needed break. I saw an older woman walking past us with a scowl. I guess she didn’t like public displays of affection.
“I really have to go, Seth.” I pleaded. The more he touched me, the more I wanted to remain in his arms. “And you seducing me won’t help.”
“Sorry,” but I’m sure he wasn’t, as he attached to my lips again.
“I’m serious, Seth!” I tried to say but my giggling didn’t really help me make my point.
“Fine,” he sighed. “If you get lost, call me.”
I doubt it, I said in my mind. I have GPS in my car.
“I’ll talk to you later, okay?” To resist another scene, I limited myself to kiss his cheek.
He hugged me tight before letting me go. I walked around my car to the driver side and waved one last time before shutting the door behind me and starting the car. He watched me from the sidewalk as I drove into the street and then started back inside to catch up on some sleep I bet.
I felt my phone buzz in my back pocket but chose to ignore it. Whoever it was, probably Tony, can wait. I was on my way. The drive was surprising short. Though parking was a hassle, I found a ramp to ride into a block away from the hospital that Tony was using for the Lab.
Thank god I didn’t wear heels, I thought gratefully. My UGG boots, though blandly brown, treaded the snow gracefully and I was glad I could get to the hospital quicker. My hair was pulled into a sloppy bun, still a little damp from the shower, and I rather not have it stick to my face and freeze. My banes weren’t quite long enough to tie back so they loosely fell behind my ear.
My jacket protected most of my body while my jeans were snug and warm.
Sure, I didn’t look like a model, but I didn’t care. I was warm and comfortable. Plus last night really eased most of my nerves.
When I opened the door of the hospital, I was met with a gush of hot air and a clean smell that was over sanitized. My nose crinkled in disgust as the particles stung my nostrils. Something caught my eye, something familiar. All I recall, at first, was a tall figure with dark features. Hair, eyes, attire were all black. I didn’t see their front side, only their back, and just assumed it was a stranger. I didn’t give him a second thought.
I made it to the front desk and asked the older woman in the chair where I could find the lab. She shot me a skeptical look and used that dumb excuse “only employee personal allowed.” I rolled my eyes and pulled out my badge that got her to shut up. She pointed her finger end of the hall and directed me to go down to the basement level where I’ll find the laboratory doors. I thanked her and scurried past plentiful of people towards the stair doors.
After two flights under dim lighting, I found the wide metal doors with the yellow caution strip plastered on them. Ignoring the visible warning, I pushed past them and ran straight into Andrea’s frail figure waiting for me by the fridge.
