"Guys!" I call, careful not to be too loud, our neighbors already hate us, "Guys, come out here!"
Kira, Maddi and Deacon walk out of the bedroom. Maddi has her arm around Deacon now, but I know it's only because then her hand is close enough to slap him.
"You got away?" I ask him in amusement.
"Yeah, and all on my own too, considering my lovely girlfriend couldn't be bothered to help." He glares a Kira but she just smiles. "Hey Morgan! You here to join the party of people walking in on these three?"
"No," Morgan draws herself up to full height and raises her chin, "I called ahead."
"Sorry? What's that mean?" He jokes, squirming out of Maddi's grip and stealing some chips from Kira.
"Anyway..." I sit myself on the arm of the couch and everyone gathers around me, "What brings you here, Morgan?"
"Well, I got an acting gig at a theatre downtown!" Maddi gives a round of applause, "But... my Dad sort of kicked me out." Maddi 'boo's.
"What do you mean, 'sort of' kicked you out?" Kira holds the bag of chips out of Deacon's reach as she looks at Morgan in concern, "How do you 'sort of' kick someone out?"
"Yeah!" Deacon gives up reaching for the chips and heads over to the kitchen, "Plus, weren't you excited to move out like, a year ago?"
"I was." Morgan replies, "But Dad said no because he didn't want me fraternizing with boys."
"He actually said 'fraternizing'?" Maddi asks
"No... but that's beside the point. When I turned nineteen this year he said I should think about getting my own house, then a few days ago I mentioned this acting thing and I guess... well I don't really know, he just decided it was time for me to move out. Then when I pointed out what he said last year, he gave me four days to pack up and move in with you guys."
"Huh, that's... well okay." Deacon apparently doesn't have a response. He's back with his own bag of chips and sits back down on the floor (we really need more furniture in here).
"Well, you're welcome to stay as long as you want, or need." I say to her, "That's what friends are for."
"Thanks!" She smiles, "Can I get settled then?"
"Sure!" I jump up to help her unpack.
Half an hour later, a blown-up single mattress joins our collection of beds in the crowded room (don't even ask how we got it in here) and Morgan's luggage it sitting on the wide window sill. I'm thinking that if one more person...
"...comes over they're going to have to sleep with Maddi!" Kira finishes my unspoken sentence as her and Deacon enter the room, talking animatedly.
Deacon walks over to Morgan and puts his arm around her, "Well Morgan, you're welcome to stay with these three as long as you like. You can eat their food and use up their Wi-Fi all you want, just stay away from the Oreos, they're mine."
"They are not!" I yell at him, "They are mine Latte!"
"Wait, if she's gonna stay for a while, can we make her pay rent?" Maddi asks, putting in her earbuds in and sitting down on the small square foot of floor left just inside the bedroom door.
"Only if she's here for more than a month." I reply, I turn to Morgan, "Is that fair?"
She nods, "More than fair. What are you doing Maddi?"
"Writing." she answers without looking up, her fingers typing at lightning speed.
"Ooo isn't that the story where everyone has tattoos on their arms that say who your true love is and you have the same one as your best friend?" Morgan asks.
"Yep, just put chapter fifteen on Wattpad this morning."
I dive onto my bed and grab my phone out of the shoebox on top of my dresser (I had to find somewhere to put personal items okay?) and pull up Wattpad faster than you can say 'addicted'.
"Whoa, Emma, I thought you hated that book?" Kira laughs as she gets her own phone to read the story.
"Uhh... Well, I hate the fact that I'm addicted to it." I state bluntly, blushing slightly. Across the room Deacon looks confused.
"It's the one where I choke you in the middle of a restaurant and Kira doesn't feel the need to help you when you pass out." I say.
He nods, "Sounds about accurate to real life."
"HEY!" Kira and I both shout, then start laughing, "Okay, only a bit."
