A door slams behind me and I glance up from my book to see Maddi entering the room we all share. Somehow we crammed two single beds, a double mattress (Maddi's), and three dresser units into the main bedroom of a single-person Toronto apartment. Personally, I'm proud of us!

She stomps across the bedroom and plops herself down on my bed –why mine? All the beds are in the same room!

I can tell she's not angry because if that was the case she would have started yelling already. I expect she some hot guy in town and wants to tell the world.

"TherewasthisreallyhotguydownatStarbuckandIneedtofindoutwhoheis!" She bursts out in one breath.

I calmly mark my place in the book and look up at her, "A little slower maybe?"

She glares at me, but repeats herself, making an effort to talk even slower than normal, "There was this really hot guy down at Starbucks and I need to find out who he is."

She pronounces hot like 'hawt', which makes me want to laugh, "So you mean you're going to stalk him on the internet like you do with everyone else?"

"Pretty much."

Kira walks into the room then, holding her phone to her ear. "Emma, it's Morgan," she says, referring to the person she's talking to on the other end of the line, "She wants to know if she can come hang out for a bit and says you weren't picking up."

"Sure, if it's fine with you guys?" Maddi nods and picks up her own phone, checking her messages.

Kira moves the phone away from her ear, "Um... why does she always call ahead?"

I laugh, "Because she wants to be 'spontaneous'."

"Uhhh, okay?" She walks out of the room just as Deacon walks in.

"Do you have a key or something?" Maddi yells over her music at him.

"Nope, Kira let me in." He waves at me and walks over to poke Maddi, "Hey Emma!"

I sigh, realizing my book will have to wait, and  I surrender to the real world, "Hey Latte." I say, using my affectionate nickname for him in response.

Deacon's poking gets him stuck in a headlock as Maddi ditches her music and resorts to violence, so I get up to help free him as Kira walks back into the room.

"Hey, you wanna help?" I ask her as she sits down on her bed.

"No, I'll just watch the show." She opens a bag of chips and makes a show of putting one in her mouth. I free Deacon but in turn accidently elbow him in the stomach. He keels over and groans so I give up and leave the room.

As I walk into the main area of our apartment, which we converted into a living room, I see Morgan standing at the front door.

"It was unlocked." She says, shrugging a backpack onto the floor next to a duffel bag.

"Whoa, how long are you staying?" I ask

"Well, I did say a bit..."

I laugh and run over to hug her, "Okay, as long as you brought an air mattress!"
