I sat at a table at Johnny Rockets, patiently waiting for everyone to show up. It was my 14th birthday, and I invited everyone to come eat with me.

I told everyone to be here at 5:30, and it was already 5:45. I felt like such an idiot for sitting here all alone. I wasn't sure what to do, since I made my mom drop me off.

The waitress had already asked to take my order twice, but I was trying to remain optimistic that people would show up.

I kept hearing the restaurant door open, and each time my head would lift up immediately, expecting it to be one of my friends.

Each time, I was disappointed. I decided to quit looking up. By the looks of it, no one was gonna show up. I should just go home.

The door opened again, I didn't even acknowledge it. Suddenly, a familiar voice filled my ears.

"Hey y/n, I'm so sorry I'm late. There was so much traffic."

It was Gabe.

"You actually came!" I yelled enthusiastically, jumping into his arms. I squeezed him tight.

"Of course I did." He chuckled, squeezing me tighter.

"Happy birthday beautiful." Gabe whispered in my ear, sending tingles down my spine. My heart exploded with joy, and I couldn't wipe the smile off my face.

"I'm so happy you're here." I grabbed his hand and dragged him towards the table, which had over 15 seats, all of which were unoccupied.

"Um, why so many seats?" Gabe chuckled.

Then I remembered. No one besides Gabe showed up. Its because nobody likes you. I thought to myself.

"I invited pretty much everyone. You're the only one who came." I shrugged and sat down, trying to act normal.

By the look on his face, I could tell he felt sorry for me, and I didn't want that. Thankfully, he didn't say anything, he just sat down right smack next to me.

Gabe's chair was so close to mine, we were practically sharing a seat. Although I didn't really mind, my heartbeat was erratic.

He rested his head on his hand, which was supported by his elbow on the table. He stared at me, a soft grin on his face. It made me nervous, he made me nervous.

"What are you gonna order?" I asked, trying to take his attention off me. I was positive that I was red as a tomato.

"I'm not sure, I'm not really hungry, so probably just a shake, what about you?" Gabe asked.

"Maybe just some fries." I replied.

We were at the restaurant for over an hour and a half, laughing at everything and anything. Gabe managed to make this one of the best birthdays ever.

"Ready to go?" The Filipino boy asked me, messing with my hair. I replied with a yes and we walked outside.

"Thank you for coming, Gabe. I actually had a lot of fun tonight." I smiled shyly. He smiled back, throwing his arm around my shoulder.

"Anything for you, Bonita." I smiled at the nickname. Had he been taking Spanish classes? Then, he did the most unexpected thing. He kissed my forehead. My heart was pounding, and I couldn't wipe the grin off my face.

I looked down, not wanting him to be able to see my blushing face.

"You look so cute when you're shy." Gabe chuckled. I playfully punched his shoulder.

Then, both of our parents pulled up at the same time.

"See you tomorrow?" Gabe smiled at me.

I nodded. He pulled me into a tight hug, rocking me back and forth slightly.

"Happy birthday y/n, hope you had fun tonight." He said before waving goodbye and getting into his moms car.

I got into my moms car as well, sighing contently. It was surprisingly a good night.
