Chapter 7

I sat there entwined with Luke. The seconds stretched for hours. Suddenly sirens began blaring. Luke immediately stood up, "I'm sorry, Lily, I have to go!" He began running.

"Wait! How will I get back to my room? You're my guard, aren't you supposed to protect me?"

"This is an emergency, you stay and hide in the bushes!"

"But Luke!"

He turned to look me in the eye, "No buts!" He ran off.

I crawled over to some raspberry bushes and climbed in. Thorns pricked my skin as I crawled to the middle. I sat on the pile of dirt wondering how I would know when to come out. Maybe Luke would come and get me.

Luke. I really wish that I could clear things up with him. Does he really like me? Do I like him? If we both like each other, can we even be with each other?

The only way that I could find out was by finding Luke myself. I began to crawl out of the bushes when I heard footsteps. I shrunk back down and looked through the leaves. I couldn't see anything for a while. Then I saw a small figure of a little girl with black hair, Ana!

I ran out to go hug her. When I saw her she gave me a dirty look. Then she smiled, "Oh Lily!"

"Ana! I've missed you so much- wait, how did you get out of jail?"

She walked me over to a wall, "They set me free, I only had to be in jail for a few weeks."

"Oh, okay. So-" Ana pushed me against the wall with a knife by my throat. "Ana! What are you doing?"

"I need to find the king, tell me where he is or..." She moved her finger over her neck.

I whimpered, I didn't know where Dad was! "Um-"

"Stop! Get your hands off of her!" Luke yelled as her ran up. Ana had fled into the garden. I fell to the ground and Luke came up to me, "Lily, are you alright?" He held me in his arms.

"Yeah, except that was my sister trying to hurt me, and apparently she is out of jail. And for some reason she is looking for Dad, it can't be good."

"Okay, Lily, I'll tell the guards. And just so you know, your sister wasn't let out of jail, she must have escaped. We will start a search as soon as possible," Luke pulled me up and back into the castle. Everywhere people were running.

"Luke, why were the sirens going off?"

He looked down at me, "Let's just say your sister wasn't the only one who wanted to see your dad."

We entered my suite. My maids helped me get changed into a nightgown with pretty lace on it. I got settled into bed and Luke walked in. He took a seat in a wooden rocking chair adjacent to the bed.

I smiled, "Luke, can you stay in here all night?"

"Of course."

I lay my head down on a feather pillow and fell into a deep and peaceful sleep.
