I woke up to the bright morning sun. I felt a hand holding mine and looked to my right. Luke was by my side and his eyes were lit up, "You're awake!" He exclaimed as he kissed my cheek.
My cheeks were burning up from his small peck on my cheek. "How long have I been out?" I croaked from lack of talking.
"About four days," he laughed.
"Wait! What about the terrorists?"
"Calm down, Ranche was killed and the base was exploded. They did invade but about half of them were killed. The rest fled."
"How are Dominic, Ramona, and Dad doing?" I asked.
Luke went pale. "Lily, your dad was shot."
"It's alright, it's not like he liked me or anything. We were practically strangers!" I said, my voice cracking as tears filled my eyes.
"And your sister killed him. And she was shot and killed."
"WHAT?" Ana was my best friend! How can she be dead and a murderer? Tears began rolling down my cheeks.
"It's alright." Luke pulled me to him and hugged me.

A few weeks later it was time for Dad's funeral. I dressed in a long black dress with long lace sleeves. My hair was put up in a bun and my makeup was very natural.
Luke escorted me out to the garden. There were many people there. Dad's casket sat in the middle of bushes of daisies, his favorite flower.
The sky was very cloudy and there was a slight breeze. The temperature was cool due to the fact it was the end of August.
We walked up to Dad to pay our respects. He lay in his casket proudly. Dad always seemed like the proud type to me. His black suit had no wrinkles in it whatsoever and he wore the perfect black bow tie.
I kneeled down next to him and began to talk, "Dad, I know that I was never kind to you. I know that I never respected you. But I had good reason. You left me when I was young and I never got to know or understand you. You never gave me a chance to adapt to this new life, you expected for me to just easily take it in," I paused to take a deep breath as the tears rushed. "But I forgive you. I bet you are a great man with good intentions. I am so, so sorry for how I treated you and never gave you a chance, but you did the same to me. I bet that we could have been great friends. I just wish that we had one nice conversation to each other. I will miss you, and I just want you to know that I love you, Dad, I really do."
I stood up and Luke took me into his arms. "Good job, Lily, I know how hard this is."
We both sat down at a table with Dominic and Ramona. Ramona was in tears and Dominic tried to be brave but was having a hard time. "Hi," I said, wiping my tears away.
"Hello, Sweetie," Ramona said.
"Hey," said Dominic.
The food was served. It was Dad's favorite, turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, and green beans. Everyone ate in silence. The only sounds were of silverware on plates.
Ramona stood up and hit her cup with a fork. "Excuse me everybody, I would like to make a speech and have the king's children give their own speeches also."
The crowd all turned to look at her as she began her speech, "Ben was a good man who loved his children. Him and I loved each other from first sight," she said more stuff about their love and how they tried to have kids and all that boring stuff. "But the biggest thing is that Ben loved his job and family. He loved life and enjoyed it. His life may have been cut short, but it was greatly fulfilled."
Ramona sat down and Dominic stood up, "So my father wanted me to become king at age eighteen. He was a great king and it would be hard for me to follow in his footsteps. I wish I could, but unfortunately I can't due to personal reasons. Which is why I have decided to give the throne to my younger sister, Lily, for I know she will do great things."
He sat down and everyone's mouths hung open. What had he just done? I'm going to be queen? I'm going to be queen! I'm not ready for that responsibility!

After the funeral Dad was buried in the garden. Ramona and Dominic went upstairs and I stayed with Luke. "How could he put this off onto me? I'm not ready!" I yelled as I paced back and forth.
Luke stopped me and I looked at him, "Lily, you don't realize how far you have come in the past two months! You will be fine!"
"Thanks, Luke. I need to go talk to Dominic, though. We need to clear things over."
"I'll come with you!" He said as he ran after me. Luke has been very protective of me since Dad died.
I opened Dominic's door and saw him making out with Ramona on the couch.
I screamed and Luke ran up next to me, "What the hell?"
"AHHHHHH!" Yelled Dominic.
"What's going on here?" I asked.
"Listen, Sweetie," Ramona said, "I have been having an affair with Dominic. Your father and I weren't in love, but Dominic and I were. That's why he turned down the throne and we are leaving."
"Oh my God."
