Chapter 19

I sat in my room for the past week doing nothing but eating, sleeping, watching TV, and bathing. I didn't want to face the world, or in my case the people in the castle. How can I marry Bradley if I love Luke? How can I marry Luke when I have some feelings for Bradley? What was I going to do?

I decided the only way that I can make up my mind in the two weeks I have left is by figuring out what is wrong with Luke and getting to know Bradley. It will be hard to do both, but it is the only way.

It is the only way. It is the only way. I told myself as I walked out my door, I really didn't want to do this. Luke was of course guarding my door. "Um, hey."

"Hey, Lily."

"Luke have you been alright lately? You have seemed a little-well-different lately. Is something bugging you?"

Luke laughed, "No, I still am the same guy who loves you more than anything in the world."

I frowned and shrugged, "Okay." I knew that he wasn't fine, I will just have to continue this later.

I mentally thought about where Bradley's room was. It should be down by Dad's old room. I ran up the steps and down the hallway. There were only three doors down it, one being Dad's, so it must be one of the two left. I knocked on the first one, no answer. So I slowly opened the door and to my surprise, there was a party room. A party room? I shut the door and walked further down the hall.

I knocked on the other door and Bradley opened it. "Oh, hi, Lily."

"Hey, can we talk?"

"Sure, come on in."

I walked in to a soft scent of lavender and musk. It sent warmth through my body. There were pictures of people on his dresser. "Who are they?" I asked.

"My family," replied Bradley, "They're back in New Vermont. I have parents, two brothers-James and my little brother Timothy, and my little sister Annabelle."

"You all look so happy."

"Yeah, life was pretty good over there, I liked having a big family."

"So you want kids when you're-we're-older?"

"Yeah three to five, actually."

"Three to five? Are you crazy! I only want two!"

"Well, I guess it's something to decide when we're older. So what did you want to talk about?"

"I just want to get to know you, I feel like we're strangers."

"Yeah. So my favorite color is green, I like to eat lobster-but not crab, I've always wanted a dog, and I love to go skiing."

"Really? Is there a lot of snow in New Vermont?"

"Only in the winter, I'll have to take you skiing sometime."

"Yeah. Okay, so my favorite color is blue, I like to eat turkey, I've always wanted a normal life, and I love to be surrounded by plants."

"You've always wanted a normal life?" He asked.

"Well I went from poor to rich and haven't lived comfortably in a while."

"Good point."

I left Bradley's room a couple hours later and really enjoyed myself. He was such a good guy. Him and I weren't anything alike, but I liked it. I felt really comfortable around him and it seemed like he really liked me.

That's different than Luke and I. He really didn't want to be in a relationship with me. He liked to flirt a bit, but he said I was to young and too good for him. He didn't want to spend his life with me-WAIT. He didn't want to spend his life with me! For some reason after Dad died and after the funeral Luke started to really love me, but what changed?

I ran back to my room and saw that Luke wasn't by my door. Where else could he be? Maybe The Guards' Room.

I ran to the big metal door on the first floor and heard some voices from inside. I put my ear to the door and listened, "So how's everything going with Lily?" Someone asked.

"Pretty good, she isn't ready for marriage yet," it was Luke, "but she will be soon, she'll have to be."

I'll have to be ready? What?

"So what are you going to do once you get hitched?"

"Well, I'll act as if everything is fine for a few days. But after that she will want to tell the public. That is when I will go to bed with her. She will fall asleep first and then I will cut her throat open with a butcher's knife I will be hiding under my pillow. She won't know what's coming."

I gasped and pulled away from the door. Luke wanted to marry me and then kill me. Tears formed in my eyes at the thought of it. He didn't really love me.

I put my ear on the door and heard the end of a sentence of a guard, "-you'll have the crown?"

"Yes, Simpson, I will have the crown. I will tell the public that Lily and I eloped and that show them the contract. I will then take the throne and become king. After that I will be able to eliminate the castes all together."

I couldn't believe it. He wanted the crown the whole time? After the funeral when Dominic announced that I was going to be the queen, Luke must have saw the opportunity. He pretended that he loved me so that he could have the crown in the end.

I ran upstairs to Lady Jubilee's room to ask her for something.

Did any of you see it coming? It's hard to believe that Luke is a traitor.
